More ridiculous aus

@home-stuck-in-desert-bluffs and I had this on-going High School AU planned out and, well, here are its highlights aka what I can remember 

 Deryn/Dylan went through a really embarrassing emo phase during their freshman year of highschool 

The plot is that Deryn dresses up as her Dylan so she can be on the boys’ soccer team

Alek is the new kid from Austria. He wanted to join the soccer team too, but arrived at the school too late in the school year to officially join 

 He had to be waterboy for a year for the soccer team, which is where he met (ogled at) Sharp

The reason Alek moves is because his dad- the President of Austria- is in danger due to Political Drama™, and he needs to get out of the country for his own safety 

Franz stays back in Austria thou, which proves to be a deadly mistake on his and his wife’s part

My Dad Is Dead Angst Bonding With Sharp Time™

 Jaspert does the Weasley brother hair rub thing !!! And he’s the best older brother ever

The school names Deryn and Alek homecoming kings, out of solidarity for them

Insert Deryn’s ma the night of homecoming “You’re actually going to a dance and you might be named homecoming king queen?? I am PICKING YOU OUT A DRESS AND YOU WILL WEAR IT YOUNG LADY”

Lilit, Adela Rogers, and Eddie Malone run the school newspaper

Alek gets interviewed interrogated by said Newspaper after moving there

Alek and Sharp do wear matching tuxes to prom thou !!! at it cute

Alek has this one green sweater that compliments his eyes perfectly and basically when he wears it Sharp is a dead boy walking rip in peace

Dr. Barlow is- surprise, surprise- the biology teacher 

Klopp teaches mechanics and is generally a v cute dad friend who needs to be protected at all costs 

Hans Bauer and Hoffman are also there??? They’re Alek’s bodyguards but travel with him and act like they’re his brothers

Headcannon! Alek has panic attacks and anxiety.

yo! This is cool and I’d love to add to this, but I don’t have experience with either of the two and don’t want to speak out of place about it. Anyone else want to tackle it?

i have some experience with anxiety, but not so much panic attacks so i’ll stick to what i know about for sure

• the first time Alek realized he had an anxiety problem was when his father was assassinated and he was on the run

• he noticed that although Volger and the others were definitely scared and anxious it didn’t really hinder their sleeping habits or any of their other habits

• on the other hand he was a near insomniac with how much he was overthinking everything and his hands were shaking almost constantly

• it got better once they reached the castle but it kicked up again once he defied Volger’s orders and went to help the Leviathan

• once he was boarded the Leviathan he felt strangely at ease even though it was enemy territory and Dylan definitely helped keep his mind out of intrusive negative thoughts

• when his clanker origins were discovered he was an absolute mess and sometimes he had to stop everything and just do breathing exercises to calm himself down

• and then Dylan turned out to be Deryn and suddenly his anxiety wasn’t about himself anymore

• one very large part of why he avoided her for a while was because he was so intensely worried about her that any time he looked at her he started to shake and his breathing would become irregular

• he was also very worried that he would somehow let slip that she was a girl and ruin everything for her and that caused a lot of overthinking also

• he finally came to terms with the fact that Deryn was a girl and his anxiety wouldn’t stop him from being her friend

• overcoming this also helped with overcoming a lot of other things anxiety-wise and having Deryn by his side always made him feel invincible

• occasionally his anxiety would kick in and Deryn would take his hand and lead him through his breathing exercises even though he knew he could do it on his own

• the hand holding also helped with the shaking

• Alek found his safe place with Deryn and she took pride in the fact that her boyfriend was so strong and could live happily even with his anxiety everyday

Since I finally got the physical copies of the Leviathan series, I was able to see the illustrations! So that means Deryn fanart hell yeah

Flipping through the pages, it was hard to find a picture of the midshipman uniform that wasn’t the rigging suit, but it seems to be just…a suit? Fine by me, I love drawing attractive people in suits.

Deryn felt brilliant, rising through the air at the center off everyone’s attention, like an acrobat aloft on a swing. she wanted to make a speech: “hey, all you sods, i can fly and you can’t! a natural airman, in case you haven’t noticed. and in conclusion, i’d like to add that i’m a girl and you can all get stuffed!”

AU where Alek actually becomes the emperor

Political unrest had swept the Austrian-Hungarian Empire. At the end of the war it was very much like a ancient, rickety fort standing upon a foundation that might give in at any moment. I won’t get into the political side of things (i.e. What he would have had to do about nationalists, policies, ect.) but

•Deryn hears the news and feels like she’s being punched in the gut. She always knew this day was coming, but now that there’s an invitation to Alek’s coronation siting in front of her…she can’t deal. •she’s happy for her friend of course (and yes they’re still friends. They write one another mini-novels every other day. And when the telephone comes into popular use?? Ohh man! You bet they talks for hours and hours into the night) but she knows she’ll miss him. He’s an emperor now and emperors seldom make time for girls dressed as boys that spend all their time tending to the needs of a boffin. She waits for the day with dread, trying to put it as far out of her mind as possible. •but eventually the day comes, no matter how much she wills it away. Over the years she’s allowed her alias as Dylan to slowly fade away. Most just refer to her as “Sharp” now and she still wears pants. (Much like the pantsuit she spent the better part of her last 5 pay checks on. (Alek sent her a v nice and fancy suit to wear, but she refused of course. Scotsman pride.)). The whole ceremony is a bit droll to her and she swears even Klopp, Bauer, and Hoffman (Alek’s most trusted advisors btw) fell asleep during it. •Volger came close to showing an emotion once or twice. That was about the only interesting thing to her. •Barlow seemed to wearing a smile that seemed all too pleased. Deryn had grown to hate that smile, because it meant that Barlow knew something she didn’t (bonus point if u can guess the thing she knows now). Sharp wished more than anything that she had another dark secret to spring on her, just to see her surprised face again. •Inbetween the golden decadence, Latin words, and stuffy old men looking more akin to the marvel statues that haunted about the Hapsburg’s family cemetery than actual people, I think I should mention what’s been going on with Sharp the last few years of the war. Despite her injury she stayed on the ship another two years. She rose to see two more promotions before doing something daft (she jumped off of the leviathan mid-land battle using a glider thing to save the lives of an entrenched battalion. She fudged up her knee again- this time permanently- she’s got to walk with a cane now and everything. But it DID earn her some national notoriety and a knighthood.) after that she was honorable discharged and start about her studies in biology and boffin-ry a Cambridge university. She’s currently a boffin in training (but she’s got no idea as to what she even wants to do with that. Maybe something when birds? She likes birds. OH! she got a sick sailor tattoo featuring a bird.) Where was I? OH! Emperor Alek right •After the service/coronation (which is FILLED with press btw) Alek begs that Barlow and Sharp stay the rest of the week in the Palace with him rather than at their hotel. •Barlow with her “I know more than you” smirk agrees. Just after she does Sharp is suddenly tackled and surrounded by an all too familiar smell. •it’s a current diplomats former revolutionary who’s unafraid to step in •she’s constantly confusing and confounding the world’s mysogynistic henchman •EVERYONE GIVE IT UP FOR THE WORLD GREATEST LESBIAN •LILIT •sorry about that um but yeah Deryn •they’re reunite and Lilit’s doing gr9. She’s a dignitary/diplomat helping women’s rights and democracy in The Turkish Republic. “Speaking of which, your Serene Highness, you and I must discuss women’s rights in Austria.” “I agree.” There’s Barlow. •but yes everyone is Happy and Stable ™. Alek tried to get Deryn fancy new cane. Deryn tries to hit him with her current one. Good times. •Alek gives Sharp a tour of “his” Austria and tells her his plans. Suffrage. Unification. Peace. Alek gets that far off look on his eyes and Deryn gets that familiar pain in her chest. She’s been dying without her best friend beside her- she knows it- and she wonders if he has been too. Alek looks over at her and she can see it. She can see how much he’s missed her. •"The letters were nice.“ He says in hushed English. The way his accent glides of vowels makes her nostalgic for heat and spices and frozen ice and a crowded city street all at the same time. It’s a little overwhelming. “They were nice.” He says again. Nice. “Some days they were all that kept me going don’t get me wrong, but having you with me is something…different.” •his words are sincere but there’s an awkward and frigid edge there that only someone who had spent the better part of her teen years loving could see. He’s nervous. She notices this right as she notices that he’s leaning forward towards her. She stills and he places his forehead against hers. •Suddenly she knows why Barlow was smiling. “No more secrets.” She whispers in German. •"no more secrets.“ He repeats in English. He pulls away and looks at her, then looks away, then looks at her again. Alek was always the more timid one. He liked to plan out an event, plan out every possible thread and possibility of how it could end, before he made a move, but sharp? Sharp went in guns blazing. Jump now check for parachute later. •"I love you Alek.” But he knows that already. Just as he knows what’s underneath her suit. Just as he knows the sun will rise tomorrow. Just as he knows he is emperor. He starts to say something but she cuts him off and now she’s rambling, because she thinks what he’s about to say will hurt her. “I know- I know it’ll never work out and that a relationship between us would be barking complicated and that you’ve got to get married to a proper royal girl and your parents and what they did and that-” •"Deryn.“ He whispers. He grabs her hands and she calms. Since when is he the calm one? “Deryn” he repeats. She wonders why she ever hated hearing her name in his mouth. •Where’s Bovril during all of this? •"relations between the former allied nations and the central powers in complicated.“ By complicated he means terrible. "But I think a wedding between a beloved war hero and feminist icon to a young, well liked emperor might help.” •Her heart stops. He didn’t just say that did he? Before she can process she’s hearing her own voice. “Well, I’m more than willing to be a beloved war hero and feminist icon, but where in the world are we ever going to find a well liked emperor.” Did she really just say that? But they’re both smiling and then they’re both laughing. •he stops laughing when she wraps her hands around his waist. “Who knows. After all, emperors are daft and useless things.” •"vain and useless, Princeliness.“ Bovril chirps from where he sits perched on a near by statue. Oh look there’s Bovril.
