"There's no racing in heaven because all drivers go to hell." is hands down the funniest thing Niki Lauda ever said.

fun little drawing exercise based on this mario renzi pic :D
i’ve figured it out. the albert park circuit got confused seeing the 3, assumed daniel ricciardo was in that car, and applied the aussie driver home race curse accordingly
imo. the reason f1 so heavily advertises everything surrounding the sport (the glitz and glamor, the destinations, the lifestyle, the *drama*) is because the actual on-track product kind of sucks. the racing doesn’t really sell itself so they have to sell everything else around it. and once you blink the stars out of your eyes, it’s really blatantly obvious.
you don’t need to build a cult of personality around your athletes if the sport itself is engaging enough. which f1 hasn’t been for a long while.

reading through the list of key personnel that have departed from red bull over the last two years is like...
divorced (wheatley leaving for audi), beheaded (horner), died (marko), divorced (newey leaving for aston), beheaded (checo), survived (mekies)
i think a lot of people who want oscar at red bull or tbh any driver at red bull especially as their priority driver (so only after max leaves) underestimate how rarely red bull take on non-rb junior drivers lol
out of 14 people who drove for red bull, only 4 had no prior red bull backing: their first ever lineup of coulthard and klien (who was made to share a seat with rb junior liuzzi), webber and perez. so in the last 10 years it's only checo who came from outside the system

one thing i will miss about the drs era is alonso's ability to abuse it into oblivion. as soon as he gets to 7th place this man turns into a world class train conductor. no one is passing anyone for the next 30 laps meanwhile he is watching the race on the screens as if he has gone on a chill sunday drive
