I told my therapist recently that buildings actually do need to sweat and breathe, and have what amounts to circulatory systems in their ventilation, water and electricity. If you leave a building closed up and stagnant for too long it will rot. He appeared genuinely shocked and touched and thanked me emphatically for the information
Of course the follow up was a trite “do you treat yourself the way you treat a building” and you know what, it doesn’t matter at all. Everything is a system and all systems require maintenance, and often that maintenance is deferred due to money and laziness. I am winning at therapy.
Some familiar backyard visitors here in the Eastern US! A Peck's Skipper (Polites peckius) and a Narcissus Bulb Fly (Merodon equestris) I saw in a suburban garden yesterday.
Have been seeing a lot of Peck's Skippers lately, I really love when Skippers fold their wings partially up (not pictured, sadly).
I love seeing hoverflies in general, they're really underappreciated pollinators and super cute!!! This particular species was likely introduced in our area from Europe.

Nature is incredible, you can really see just at a quick glance how these evolved to speak together in rhyming riddles while performing a spooky dance, laughing at you because they're The Wee Creatures Three and you will Never Get Their Key.

at least can all we agree that the original gay flag with the magic and sex colours is BEAUTIFUL and it should make a comeback
what’s more iconic than this
What about the final version of the flag by the original creator?
Gilbert Baker added a 9th stripe shortly before his death, with the new stripe representing diversity. He added this stripe in reaction to the 2016 US election. It’s unfortunately not as well known as the 8 and 6 striped versions.
Here’s an image of him sewing together the 9 striped rainbow flag.
