So I’m feeling SUPER crappy and my friends on Facebook were giving me nice messages and comforting words, and then one of my old college friends posted this on my Facebook wall

And I love it SO MUCH. Like omg if you know me even a little bit you know that I am a rabid Spider-Man fangirl, and she drew me as Spidey, and that is just the nicest thing anyone could do for me pretty much

Peter’s my role model, I aspire to be like him, so basically telling me that I’m being strong like Peter would be strong is just kjasdlfksajdkf

I want to frame it and keep it forever, I love this so much.

How does Peter act when he's in love with someone?

Like an idiot, pretty much.

Peter’s always pretty thoughtful just by default, but when he’s in love, that gets cranked up to 12, and it’s hard for him to take his mind off the person he’s interested in. He tries to do nice things for them as much as possible and debates heavily on whether or not to make his romantic interest known. Peter doesn’t have the best self-esteem and worries a lot that Spider-Man, superhero is infinitely more interesting than Peter Parker, freelance photographer. 

But he does devote a lot of thought and attention to the person he’s interested in. He relies more on his sense of humor and talks a lot because he feels nervous, often brings little gifts and such, typical courting behavior that he mostly learned from his aunt and uncle.

Amazing Spider-Man #11

“Nah,” Mary Jane gave a laugh, waving her hand dismissively at Peter before taking a seat next to him on the bed. “I like it, seriously. Aunt May is a good cook. I like eating here.” No offense to her own mom’s cooking or anything. It was okay, she was just usually…distracted.  She looks over at Peter and grins: he’s so obviously stressed out, trying to apologize for something that needs no apology. She watches him fiddle with his glasses and laughs again. “Relax, Tiger. You need to learn to take ‘er easy.”  MJ flopped back onto the bed, ready to talk gossip and other things she was sure Peter didn’t care about but was nice enough to listen to anyway. She always preferred talking to Peter: her gal pals were nice and all, but they didn’t listen as well. To be fair, she probably didn’t either. Maybe it was a 14 year old girl thing. But then he brought up what she wanted to talk about. MJ had been kind of hoping he’d forget about it. She sat up again, feeling insecure for the first time ever really. Her feet dangled over the edge of the bed and she looked down at them, letting her red hair fall around her face. “Um, yeah. Everything’s fine…it’s kind of stupid really.” Only Peter probably wouldn’t think that it’s stupid. That’s why she wanted to tell him first. “So, you know how the school is doing Grease this year? I know, so lame…every school does Grease. Cabaret is better, but they probably think that’s too risque or something.” She was rambling. Stalling. “Anyway, I was thinking of trying out.” She paused then, nodding her head back and forth as if mentally battling with the idea. “I know it’s kinda dumb and all, but you know I’ve always loved theater and musicals. And I love to sing. I probably wouldn’t get a big part or anything, cause we’re only in our first year of high school and I bet they’d give all the good parts to seniors. But still…I was thinking I’d read for Marty or something and see what happens.”

Peter waited patiently for her to tell him -- and when she finally did, he just smiled, thinking it was sort of silly to be so worried about a school play. He’d thought it was something a lot more serious than that, honestly, so when she told him she was thinking of auditioning for Grease, he felt a little relieved. But it was serious to her nonetheless, and he wasn’t about to be a jerk by making her worries seem trivial or unimportant.

“I think you should.” It would be fulfilling for her, he thought. Whether she got the lead or got a tiny role or got rejected entirely, he’d be there as moral support. 

“Even if you don’t get anything -- which you will, you’re a lot more talented than you give yourself credit for -- it’s good experience to try. It’ll probably help you be less nervous for auditions in the future. You know?”

He scooted back so that his back was to the wall, legs stretched out in front of him. Mary Jane clearly wanted to do this, and he wanted to encourage her if she was sure; it’d be cool to see her on stage, anyway. If one of them was gonna be destined for something awesome, it was MJ, totally and completely.

“I mean, I think it’d be really good for you to try out. You should do it.”

"I’m sorry about my aunt,” Peter says as he ushers MJ into his bedroom, shutting the door behind them (despite clear instructions to keep it cracked open; Ben’s watching a baseball game on TV downstairs so he’d rather keep the sound muffled by the door). “I swear that her trying to overfeed you just means she likes you. You can always tell her no, if you want.”

He sits on the edge of his bed, looking up at Mary Jane through smudged glasses, and eventually the squinting gets irritating enough that he takes them off to wipe the lenses with his shirt hem. MJ’s experienced in dealing with May and Ben, but he still feels the need to apologize if only for the embarrassment he feels; they like her, she’s part of the family, so that means a lot of nagging about her health and insistence that she’s a growing girl, she should really have another plate of pasta.

Now that dinner’s over, at least they can relax for a few minutes alone. He slips the glasses back on his face now that he can see her properly through them.

“You said you wanted to talk about something. Is everything okay?”

Would you have married Gwen if she hadn't died?

“...I don’t know. Probably.”

They’d always been really close, and even now, he still loves her, still hurts when he thinks about where his life would be if she hadn’t died. He wouldn’t trade his relation-ship with MJ to have Gwen back, of course; he loves them both equally, in different ways. But he feels like he and Gwen hadn’t gotten enough time. They were just kids back then, just stupid kids with big dreams. There’s no telling if he would have married her or not, but he knows he loved her enough to at least have considered it.
