I use primarily he/him pronouns. I am an intersex trans man and xenogender user. My gender as well as my orientation are heavily tied to my status as an intersex person; the labels I use are not for you to police.

I’m 16 years old.

I have AuDHD as well as a small variety of comorbid mental issues. I may struggle with communication but I love to talk and make friends. If you’d like, feel free to reach out!

general misandry, sad as it may be, does exist. and until another term is brought to my attention sadly it is in fact the term i will be using. but anyways.

misandry does exist. it exists in the way people made fun of the boy scouts and the altar boys because “they’re men, right? then they can get over it”.

it exists in the way teenage boys getting groomed by adult women is viewed as them being “lucky” whereas when the same happens to teenage girls its called exactly what it is- grooming and abuse.

it exists in “kill all men” statements and “testosterone is poison” statements and in the belief that for a man to be “a good man” he has to renounce his masculinity and, even if minimal, become more feminine.

and yes, all of this also applies to transmen/mascs.

the belief that “all men benefit from the patriarchy” excludes disabled men, men of color, queer men, intersex men, and any man who isn’t the cishet perisex neurotypical ablebodied man.

my best friend is genuinely afraid of women because of the trauma he has experienced and the hands of women around him, but god forbid he say that because he has no reason to fear women as a man.

my dad was one of those boy scouts and yet even now he can’t talk about it without making fun of himself because he is a man and he has to be “over it”.

my brother’s worst bully at school was a girl but because of the circumstances, he was constantly told to shrug it off because he is a boy and she’s a girl.

i hit puberty early, at age 8. my breasts start developing while i’m in the fourth grade. it feels wrong to me, like my body is becoming something that isn’t mine.

i am told this is normal.

i get a hair cut that spring break, a boy haircut. my classmates don’t recognize me at first. but when they do, they make fun of me. they call me names, they pull my pants down.

i am punished.

i am eleven, entering middle school. my body is not mine, with these breasts and this monthly blood. i meet a girl, but she tells me she is actually a boy.

i am confused, but i listen. he tells me that he’s transgender, and i ask questions.

slowly, i realize i relate. i google, i read, i question.

i come out to my parents at age twelve. i am told i am wrong, that i’m too young.

my mother says that if i am a man, i will be just like my father.

i am told to wait.

i wait, i am fourteen now. i am told to not label myself, and my masculinity is punished. i loose friends, family. but finally i am allowed to be a man.

i am fifteen, almost sixteen.

i have been forced to detransition. i have been forced to hide myself.

i have been punished for my masculinity.

i have been punished for being born a woman.

so what am i to do?

what am i to do when those who should most understand, tell me i’m wrong? that i’m against them?

Not to get into community discourse, but I’d like to share a point.

Mind you, I have seen multiple sides to this “debate” as I like to have rounded knowledge before I say my piece, about ANYTHING political or discourse-y.

The statement I’ve seen again and again, in multiple places, is the sentiment that there aren’t bills directly targeting transmascs, or hatred directed specifically at transmascs, or anything else under that umbrella directed at transmascs.

Obviously there have been a lot of good counters to these statements, and I’m not going to repeat something that’s been said better or more eloquently by others.

However, I have yet to see anyone talking about something that, in my opinion, really should be referenced more.

The concept of “Rapid Onset Gender Dysphoria” (ROGD).

ROGD as a concept was legitimately created to theorize why, all of a sudden, transmascs were coming out and attempting to transition.

Rather than acknowledging the blatant truth- tranness, to these people, was limited to AMABs, and even then, for the longest time “trans healthcare” for ANY trans person was just discouraging transition altogether- they decided to make up a narrative that suited their needs.

That their precious “daughters” were falling victim to a new disorder. Rapid Onset Gender Dysphoria.

Rather than help their sons feel comfortable in their own bodies, masses of parents flocked to this idea. Politicians flocked to this idea, and used it as a BASIS for many anti-trans bills.

Need I cite the hopefully infamous book? “Irreversible Damage: The Transgender Craze Seducing Our Daughters”? The INFAMOUS book written elaborating this idea? The book used as evidence for countless transphobic bills?

That one concept (which, by the way, ROGD has been discredited by NUMEROUS health organizations worldwide, just in case I needed to clarify that) led to COUNTLESS transmascs facing abuses at home, in school, and elsewhere.

IDK, just food for thought. I think it’s odd that, in all my searching and read throughs of this discourse, NOBODY has mentioned this, even though it’s a pretty good example of transmasc specific oppression.

Hi! The reason it was worded the way it was to emulate the beliefs of the people who came up with this stuff. I meant no harm, genuinely.

Historically, trans healthcare has in fact been centralized around transfems- namely, making sure they don’t transition. Trans healthcare as a whole was quite literally designed to “make them normal or, at worst, gay men”. (Paraphrased quote; I can find the actual quote again if asked).

My use of “AMAB” here wasn’t meant in any way to harm transfems; in the post, the comment “transness, to these people, was limited to AMABs” was simply a way to explain the thought process they have- only “boys” can be trans, ans even then, god forbid they grow up to be anything other than gay “men”. “Girls” were simply called tomboys, and that was the end of the conversation. (Which is, frankly, bullshit.)

I am in no way attempting to use harmful language in a negative way; rather emulate a thought process.

I do apologize heavily if the way I worded things was wrong, however, either in the initial post or this response.

Hi! i appreciate the response, I understand where you’re coming from and i hope I didnt come off as assuming you meant harm, and everyone should take my word (tme gnc lesbian) with a grain of salt but at least from what ive seen from transfem feminist perspectives, using AGAB language for transfems obscures the way that transmisogyny is at its core an arm of misogyny.

Sorry, this is going to be rambly and definitely not coming from a place of authority, these are just my thoughts on the matter beyond the fact that a lot of transfems have been asking people try to move away from defaulting to AGAB language when discussing transmisogyny.

i think it’s an easy to make misconception that trans women under heteropatriarchy are treated as “failed” men the same way that—for example—gay men are, but the reality is that trans women are treated more as an exploitable class of “failed” women. transphobes don’t treat trans women the way they treat men, they abuse them as a class of women who aren’t afforded the same protections as cis women.

this is a pretty sweeping generalization, but there is an asymmetry in the social panic around trans people as it applies to transmascs versus transfems, which you made a really important point about wrt anti-transmasculinity in the original post. however while the broader social response to transmasculinity is—as you pointed out—a large-scale paternalism over a collective society’s “lost brainwashed future fertile wifemothers,” when it comes to transfems that paternalistic abuse more often applies to the direct family members while beyond that the collective treatment of transfems is less that they are society’s lost children to be saved and preserved from a social contagion and more that they ARE the contagion themselves, to be shunted into the shadows of society for abuse beyond the bounds of the patriarchal protection racket that is the heterosexual nuclear family.

again, this is a broad generalization, but i think it is important to recognize that compared to anti-transmasculinity, transmisogyny doesn’t as heavily hinge on the idea of “saving a potential patriarch” the same way trans men are largely coerced into detransition with the goal of turning them into “potential wives and mothers.” (warning: massive generalization) patriarchy views trans men as “failed women” who can and must be turned back into “acceptable women,” while it views trans women as “failed women” to be kept permanently in an exploitable class of women it is acceptable to abuse. i think using AGAB language for transfems obscures this relation as a major pillar of transmisogyny.
