yeah! I think it was definitely his first time trying baked goods like that—since I don't think anyone was selling or baking poundcakes in a decimated city 😭

thinking about how the events of s3 happen so MAWS so fast, and while it's definitely a result of the short amount of episodes—I think it still works really well for the themes and message of this season. we're all scared of the future, and it always comes before you even have time to prepare. and this especially applies to superboy. he never feels like he has enough time, it's so tragic. his time with the gang was probably the happiest he's ever been—and yet it was all over in an instant before he's immediately thrown back into fighting for his and everyone's future. the fact that he never has the time to grieve and properly unpack his traumas either... my poor boy ):

   “Soooo why a news reporter? What’s it like? Is staring at the screen all that you do? Doesn’t your butt hurt from sitting the whole time?”

   He shoots one question after the next while flying nonchalantly in the back, as if waiting for something exciting to happen on the desktop screen. It’s not really what he expected Superman to be doing but—then again, he really only knew Superman and not the man wearing the glasses.

   Even then, saying he knew Superman was a stretch. He only knew whatever information that was fed to him—and the very concept of hope that the hero embodied. Otherwise, the man was practically a stranger in more ways than one.

   Seriously, how can he pretend to be so... ordinary? Not that it’s a bad thing, but ordinary is not something he would ever think to describe Superman as.

   "...Nothing here either. Great, just—agh. What else did I expect?" His shoulders go slack as he lets out a defeated sigh. He had been sorting through some of Lex’s...less heavily guarded warehouses in search of… something—anything to help with the fight against the cyborg. But alas, nothing comes up.

   Should have expected as much. Lex wouldn’t even think to create the kryptonite armor prototype until many years into the future. Maybe he should just waltz right up to him and say ‘ Sup Dr. Luthor? You may not know me but I know you—and I also know that Hank is going to kill you someday! '

… Yeah, right.

   Suddenly, a sound. Raising a brow, he immediately turns behind him. Someone else is here. “Uuh…hi?” Smart talking there, dude. They don't appear to be working for Lexcorp, at least...probably. Maybe?

   With his legs dangling off the roof, the unforgettable sight of Metropolis below him, he finds himself taking it all in. It almost didn’t feel real to see the city so full of life, like he had woken up and left the future—that terrible nightmare—behind him. But the ceaseless flames and destruction burning against his skin still felt far too real in his memories for it to simply be a bad dream.

   Sighing heavily, he hadn't realized Lois was joining him on the rooftop until she spoke and snapped him out of his daze. “Oh—Lois! Hiya.” He smiles wide and bright, appreciating the unexpected company. But his expression softens as he takes a moment to mull over her words.

   “Heh. Being alone is sort of…something I’ve just gotten used to.”

   The killer-robots certainly didn't make for good company, and it’s not like he had anyone else left back in the future anyway.

   He flattens his lips, a heavy pit in his chest forming as he turns his attention back to Lois. Don’t think about it. “—What about you? Seeing as you came up alone. Needed some fresh air?” It beats breathing in nothing but ashes and debris.

I knew Hank was a tier 1 villain in that he only halfway there mid boss but still ooof

It still hurts to see 💔 he really deserved the full season

i also uuh I see how the writers wanted to originally include kon in s3 now (MAWS episode 5 spoilers)

with lex taking over metropolis in the future, he likely would have made kon by that point... hence why the writers said they wanted to bring in kon from the future in an interview

oh superboy 💔 if only he knew a more horrible future awaited him when he came back...I guess that explains why he looks the way he does in the opening, they're going to take his joy and whimsy away!!

this episode was SO brutal and intense ohhh my god it had some of the best action in MAWS to date!! clark also losing his powers towards the end WAS INSANE? death of superman indeed...

also ironic how lex went from being superboy's ally to now being his enemy after he took over metropolis in the future...

his relationship with kara is also SO cute 😭😭

sad that they god rid of hank so early in the season though, his death pulled a heartstring in me 💔 he's still a piece of shit but it is also genuinely tragic how lex used him and his hatred for superman to lead him to his own demise
