Finishing the Semester
With that last post i have now:
-Posted all 50 typeface font pictures for our daily blog assignment -Posted all 8 different typefaces for our hand drawing assignment -Posted reviews for all the readings up to date on the syllabus finally -Posted documentation of the creative process for projects 1, 2 and 3 with just project 4 remaining.
this is my roomates laptop, a lot of people now a days put stickers on their water bottles, fridges and laptops. My roommate has a lot of them i chose to take a picture of the JE11 logo so i can talk about it. I know most people have heard of TB12, Tom Bradys clothing line. But less known is that reciever Julian Edelman has a brand almost identical. Personally i didnt know this until i asked him about the sticker. The font looks to be a san serif plain font similar to bradys.
This our room favorite beer, not a lot of stores around the area sell labatts. Probably one of my favorite beers but im also pretty partial to Canada and Texas so thats not very fair. The font in “Labatts” looks like a script font while the “Blue” is a slab serif.
This is probably one of my favorite brands, i actually put it up there with apple. I had a samsung phone up until all these new iphones with nice features. The font on the remote is a san serif its also their logo.
This is the white of our flag as part of the stripe even though its silver not white. The font is a slab serif i think because of the a in natural has a like kick out. I chose this because it was in sight
This is the blue of our american flag, also a pretty recognizable logo even though they switched the logo up this year. The font is an all caps san serif font pretty blocky maybe even bold.
I chose to take photos from around my dorm because i need 6 more to finish these up for the year. This is a Budweiser box the font is a script typeface it’s pretty classic logo/font that people can recognize it very easily. I found this as part of our american flag of boxes
Week 13: Branding/AIGA Reading
What i learned about branding trough are reading is something that every article we read seems to relate to - dont over design. I say this because they emphasis it because logos are meant to be simple recognizable if i’ve learned anything this semester. Also a pretty big thing was that you need to keep it new and fresh if you know what i mean. People like to use the google example with keeping everything new and interesting. What i learned in the AIGA reading was that they have very specific standards i need to think about for project 4 especially like the possible colors of the logo and the size dimensions needed for the company motto under the logo and stuff.
Week 14: 100 ideas “Branding”
In the Entrepreneur section i figured out that a common theme of this book and graphic design is mind manipulating. Which is kind of crazy to think of all these little things in their work are meant to influence you to a certain idea. It almost makes me try to find the things in the art that they don’t want me to see. In the Brand narratives section i reread some information that i kind of already understood such that brands have to try to appeal to certain types of people and most brands are trying to get the interest of as much people as possible and how companys need to be like google ever changing to keep people interested and not switch. I learned in the Guerrilla advertising section that not all guerrilla advertisments are meant to be aggressive or hostile, they were initially used for political campaigns that weren’t able to get a hand on mass media but needed a way to promote themselves.
Week 12: 100 ideas “color” column
in the red with black category i learned that red with black is a very dominating color combo and you might not be able to control the way it is conveyed because of its aggressiveness. In the Supreme geometry section i learned that black is considered the color with the most graphic impact. So now knowing this in my mind red and black are not colors to fool around with lol. I learned something pretty cool in the night spectaculars, that Paris was one of the first cities to have street lights and was the birthplace of neon signs. After all these reading i’m starting to think France was almost the birthplace of alot of types of art.
Week 11: Propoganda
In the Propaganda section i reread about what i kind of already knew but in more detail that propaganda is manipulative and sometimes spreading lies. I remember having to research propaganda when we read 1984 in high school and how you can see some of those same ideas now a days like the Obama “hope” posters. in the manifestos section i learned something pretty cool, that in 1909 Marinetti published a manifesto that resembled a newspaper and it was considered one of the first versions of machine art. I chose the third section the provocative gesture because i was looking for another section of this weeks reading and saw a weird picture of the statue of liberty kissing another girl and i had see what it was and it turned out to be the next section i was going to read. I learned that any image can make a huge stand for something you might not be expecting like Madonna grabbing her crotch is a symbol of woman’s liberation. Who knew?
Week 10: 100 ideas “large type”
I learned in the supergraphics section, that i thought was pretty cool was that in world war 1 the designs on the ships were made to stand out. I found that surprising because its the exact opposite of camouflage, but it turns out that’s how the through off enemy depth perception, Interesting. I also learned in the loud typography section which i thought was cool is that in the 90s loud typography was closely related to rap music because of its rhythm. Finally i learned in the Monumental images section that large and loud images have been used in a marketing type scheme since the 1900′s and even before with examples like kings and bishops having giant images and sculptures of them self to promote they are larger than life. Would have been helpful if i actually read this before project 2 and 3 where i used large images and such.

Alright finally last one for the month, maybe even the year since this is the 17th one today. This was a photo i had on my phone for some reason cant remember why anymore. Its the Bio-Savart law for Physics 2 used for finding magnitude of Magnetic fields or Current and others of you rearrange it with algebra. I chose this because its interesting that in math we use different types of alphabets and all types of font but each symbol is generally internationally recognized for whatever it is such as everyone knows what PI is. The fonts here look like a roman style slab serif but it’s hard to tell cause of the pixels and screen issue.
This is the “new” college logo, i say it like that because the change is pretty unnoticable. I chose this because i think the new logo was a waste of time and money that could’ve been used for other things on campus. I do think the font of the words still does look classy and original - dont believe that was changed though. The font looks like an older style roman font and is slab serif.
I chose this for the irony that when i finally escape from school work and school in general for a couple days its still daunting me sitting on the counter lol. (think it was left out to remind me about the geology class i need to sign up for that i keep putting off) The font for “winter session” appears to be a plain san serif font.
I chose this photo to write about only because the logo popped out at me when i was looking for fonts, No idea what it’s for it was in the pantry though so some cooking thing. The font looks like a plain san serif but looks really good with their color scheme.
