But Then I Saw Fireworks || Becca&Braden
Rebecca felt a slow change in the atmosphere around she and Braden. It intensified majorly, making her heart pound and her lips get dry. She really hoped Braden couldn’t hear her heartbeat. She didn’t want him to know how nervous and excited his presence was making her. Quickly, she licked her lips but kept her large brown eyes locked with his. Then she noticed something. He was leaning in. He was going to kiss her.
"I-Uh…" she breathed out, normal words not wanting to form. Why was he going to kiss her? What happened to just being friends? Did he like her? Would he kiss her again sometime? What would this mean after the kiss? She placed a hand on his chest to push him away but the strength never came. Then she noticed another thing.
She wanted to kiss him.
She wanted to tangle her fingers in his hair and kiss him and have that perfect mix of cologne and Braden on her for days. And when he softly whispered her name, he was so close she was almost positive his lips brushed her own. And under her palm, she could feel the pounding of his heart as well. He was nervous.
"Have a nice night," the cheery worker smiled as their ferris wheel car came to a halt. The desiring aura surrounding them shattered like a piece of glass. With that, Braden was leading her from the car with an annoyed ‘thank you’ being shot at the worker. She realized how tensed and annoyed he suddenly was and it made her feel bad.
So she gently snuggled up to his arm, smiling up at him. “That was fun,” she murmured up at the boy who had just tried to kiss her moments before.
"Yeah," he smiled, "That really was. It's been ages since I've ridden on a ferris wheel." Braden couldn't stand being angry anymore with Rebecca curled up next to him, even though he really did want to to shoot eye-daggers into the forehead of the ferris wheel operator. The warmth between them was surprisingly comfortable despite the heat of the July air and all Braden wanted to do was bring her closer to him.
So he did. And he honestly didn't care what else was going on around him because, god, he had such an amazing girl in his arms. A girl that was noticeably reluctant to getting herself attached to him and he didn't want her to rush into anything she didn't want to, but to have her just in his proximity the way she was was enough for now.
Glancing above him, the town clock lit up and he saw that it was just eight minutes short of midnight and anyone that's been in Aurora long enough knew that was when the fireworks went off. Braden's favorite part. "Come on. I know a great place we can stand to get a better view of the fireworks."
