If there was one constant in his life, it was that nothing was the same. New shelters came and went, people were always coming in and out of these places, for one reason or another. The vast majority of them could fall into two groups by his reckoning: those were scared and new to living at the bottom of society and those who weren’t. A lot of the veterans Duo met sought to run away from their reality though, either with drugs or alcohol or sex. The new ones just huddled together and tried to put on brave face. It never lasted long.
It was all kind of sad, if you asked him. Then again, Duo was a pro at this lifestyle. It’s all, with a small couple of exceptions, he really knew. But unlike a lot of other old-timers, he wasn’t content to let it drown him. No way, he was going to rise above it all and show the world that there was no forgetting Duo Maxwell!
A movement to his left forced Duo out of his little cat nap. Ah, new guy. He nearly ignored the kid but a double take had Duo sitting up in his cot and leaning over towards the newcomer.
“Hey…don’t I know you?” He asked, a tad bit suspicious and maybe with a little too much curiosity. He couldn’t help but ask. He was never good at shutting up anyways and his memory was normally pretty good but at the moment, he was having trouble placing this guy. He seemed familiar.
The new guy looked to be around Duo’s age and had eyes that were as dark as his hair. He didn’t look overly pleased but then again, he didn’t have that ‘new’ look to him either. Something…what was it that was suddenly nagging Duo?
“Name’s Duo Maxwell. What’s yours?” He asked, holding out a hand.
One more heated glance in the other young man’s direction, down to the offered hand, and then Wufei turns back to his things. Know him?
So much for the quiet type. Perhaps this was why this corner of the room was relatively unoccupied. Still, it could be dangerous if, however unlikely, this guy knows who he is.
The stranger makes his introduction and Wufei sighs as he places his bag along the opposite end of his cot. He lays on his back and closes his eyes, folds his hands over his chest.
Wufei doesn’t mind the silence but he’s sure the other guy is still staring at him. He may not like it, but Wufei does realize that he shouldn’t actively make enemies in such a place. Curt is one thing, rude is another.
“Chang.” he answers after another moment, hoping that will appease the new acquaintance for the time being. It’s a common name and shouldn’t implicate him, the gesture should cost Wufei nothing.
