2023 and no real brain issues, I have come a long way since last checking in. 4 days before Christmas it appears I have had another mini stroke (tia).
It is now July 2021 and the country is recovering from the Covid 19 pandemic, I am awaiting an operation to refit my cochlear implant. As an extra I decided to have my head shaved before the operation to make life a bit easier post op. As I was going to do this it seemed logical to raise money for charity in the process. £500 to the Brain Tumour Charity.
Day 8 Friday
Wow I really slept in today as they were all sitting out of bed when I awoke, which was to delivery of my breakfast. I must of been here too long as the didn't even ask what I wanted 😳. The physio stayed away this morning so I contented myself watching workmen fix nurses sink and colouring. No Ascou to keep me amused today ☹️ in fact not even physio has appeared, so I been well bored all day, also yesterday's physio said 'home today' like that has happened! That is the second time I've been fed false information so it's a good job I didn't believe them.
Worker and latest masterpiece 😂😂
Day 7 Thursday
Nearly last up today but breakfast then a shower done. Had a good session with physo today, talking and doing transfers. Talking about my going home tomorrow so we shake see if that happens, they gave me a catalogue of equipment which is interesting and I spotted several things that might help me. Guess the excitement is over for another day 🙄. Nope nothing exciting spent the afternoon at Royal Ascot betting against myself, needless to say I had no winners. Dinner was fish pie Whitchurch was nice but despite only ordering brown bread and butter I got the works again.
Day 6
First awake but last out of bed today. When they finally got to me at least I got a shower today. Emerged to find a lady painting nails, when asked I did nu refuse. Physios came and u did the transfers to my bed and another chair, better than yesterday I thought. Cheese salad for lunch and a nice lemon merrague sponge with no custard 😀. Now will anything happen this afternoon? No nothing to report but got a packagefrom home which was nice. The equipment the physio ordered for me has arrived at home. But nothing has happened here.
Day 5 Tuesday
Well I was last to sleep and first to rise and although they woke you early to take obs. at least you can go back to sleep. I was up and dressed and in my chair before breakfast today. Physios have been and I practised transferring between bed and chair. What else happens today who knows. Longer physio today but still spent most of day doing nothing. Had word with physio and other than transfers anything else happens at home. Maybe rehab should be renamed 'shipping'. I have yet to meet a physiotherapist who tackles all my problems, so we shall see what happens next. Pain relief finally arrived at 7pm tonight. I was due a care package today but that was aborted due to a flash flood in Tamworth. So all in all a bad day,, but on the bright side I may be only one up but the lights are still on 😬
Day 4 Monday
Still allowed a reasonable sleep but by 9am I had had breakfast, showered and addressed and was sitting in my chair. Then they moved me to the next room, now I am sharing with a May, a Cythia and a xPaula, all look older than my mom. At one stage I was the only one awake. but looks can be deceptive as they must all be dangerous as the room has a minder 😂 Physios came this morning and got me to do a couple of bed transfers and have gone away to organise some care at home for me, I am beginning to think the term rehab is false and it is just used to get you out of hospital. I admit my mobility is improving but that is all, and I credit Stoke with that. I may be premature in my judgement but don't think 10 minutes physio is going to change my life while I spend the rest of the day doing nothing. A doctor has just been because my pulse rate increased over the weekend. Thumbs up when he listened to my heart. Going to prescribe some gel for the wound pain. Some action in the form of chair aerobics. Two meals in the form of salads today. They make a nice one that doesn't taste like it comes out a box, and a a fruit scone with butter and jam.
Nice scone, but sachets of butter melted making impossible to open jam 😳
Day 3 Sunday
I am impressed as no move made to get you up. Infact I only got up in time for lunch! So an extra snooze this morning. Lunch was vegetable stew and dumpling with cauliflower cheese, the usual hard to open orange juice and peaches and ice cream
Sitting in my chair is more painful than being in bed. This afternoon I read, stared into space again and started my next list of wants from home. Tea today is simply sandwiches and crisps, then I might read again. As yet only taken my temperature and no blood pressure. They finally did this and my pulse rate was high, now I'm in bed after having a good ECG.
This is the scar revealed today, not too bad, another to my collection 😂
Day 2 Saturday
The day got off to an excellent start as I slept until after 8am, had Marmite on toast for breakfast, followed by a shower and hair wash before getting dressed again. Anther occupational therapist come to see me today armed with a form to complete about home and how I did things. We got through if eventually. I read until link but think bending my new and generally using the iPad is not good for pain. Lunch today was a very nice fish and potato pie and garden peas which I chase round the plate with a spoon. No custard problems today as I chose the yoghurt. More reading this afternoon whilst eating loam of nuts and raisins and staring into space as that doesn't hurt. Lentil stew was very nice for dinner. I am beginñing to think my mom dot a job in the kitchen, as I am sure I get more than I ask for. Well I said today would be boring, I bet tomorrow is more so. Just injection in stomach to look forward to now,and bed.
Day1 a Friday
I woke up early as usual, think it is becoming a habit, but there was no action taken until later and I was up in time for breakfast not two hours earlier as usual. I actually got dressed in my own clothes today, which helped me feel better. Breakfast was delivered to me via a chef of some sort who spread my slices of toast with jam. (Think this was because I asked for no butter)
After breakfast I met with 2 pain management doctors who came to see me becaus I had painkillers last night. Thinking over did it yesterday. A right first time blood test followed by the arrival of the physio and occupational therapist. I tyres to stand to a frame but failed dismally. However I did manage to transfer between my bed and wheelchair a few times. Next we tackled the bathroom (in theory). It is a very tight in there and to get me in means the shower chair has to come out. I think had to practice standing and turning using the grab rail to get on and off the toilet. I won’t see them for the weekend which is good as I had to have painkillers after they left, I need the rest.
That was the day’s hard work over, lunch was a very nice cheese salas and chips followed by some sort of sponge swimming in custard (yuk). The afternoon included having my nails done and colouring. At the moment I am the only one in a room with 4 beds. I don’t suppose there will be much happening over he weekend so don’t expect an epic tale. I must say it is so hot in here, a bit different to Stoke where I was nearly always cold.
Rehab
Because this is happening and I'm not too sure what is involved, I am going to keep a diary(in my blog). I was transferred to Tamworth on the 11th June 2020.
