BMCA proudly welcomes Jacomijn van der Donk!

Amsterdam based jewelry designer Jacomijn van der Donk mainly uses natural mate- rials. Leather, goat hair, twigs, silver and gold are used to produce indigenous-looking embellishments of exceptional craftsmanship and detail. Jacomijn infuses her jewelry with a life and story of its own. The balance between regularity and organic randomness of form result in strikingly unique pieces of art. Her work is “an instinctive play with natural materials”, she says. To her, nature flows into her work in endless and unexpected ways. Through her designs she wishes to bring nature back to society and to peoples lives. “I try to fetch nature into the city and the everyday life, as a reminder of where we come from and what we need.”

Femke Agema | F/W 2012

For F/W 2012, Femke created a collection for the inevitable snowpocalypse. ‘Nigliktok’, the Inuit word for ‘cold’, shows Femke’s preference for adopting a rather positive take on a catastrophic event. Nigliktok is Femke’s vision of a world frozen over, a world where ice and snow dominate, but her signature colorful and playful aesthetic can still illuminate the landscape. She brings together the worlds of art and fashion with her more extravagant pieces like the masked one-piece and the blue head covering suit. Lovely little paradoxes and a good dose of wit and whimsy, this collection has Femke Agema written all over it!
