Hello friend! Would you like some DarkLico angst? Mild imo but consider Dark Choco trying to distance himself from Licorice knowing they will be enemies in the war against Dark Enchantress. Avoiding, ignoring, until it gets to the point he straight up says something cruel intent on actually hurting Licorice bc he's thinking it would chase Licorice away.

Im not sure tho about straight up avoiding, I think it has place to be if Choco first tried to convince Licorice to join him, but didnt succeed, so that could lead to everything else.

He would think that in that way he "saves" Licorice from more painful "break up" between them, make him hate them as fast as possible, tho Licorice wouldn't miss them later during war or smth like that

Why have I not seen a "Mermaid" AU for DarkLico where Licorice is an oozeling who accidentally saves Dark Choco and later decides to bother him using the life debt as an excuse to get free food and access to magic books and stuff he likes. (He hasn't realized he's developing a crush yet)
