Louie Varland can never lose now because he has all of jaysblr convinced that if he puts men on base or gives up a run, it’s all done on purpose for his sick enjoyment, and therefore does not represent a bad outing. And if he doesn’t do that, then he puts down the side on 10 pitches and has everyone talking about how he’s the best to ever pick up a baseball. Everyone’s obsessed with him no matter what.

okay in case anyone's curious what our starting pitcher/starting catcher situation has looked like, i'm an insane person and went back from today to april 3 to try and suss it out

numbers in parentheses are the number of times the catcher has caught for the pitcher listed

overall, we have:

kirky catching for dylan (6), trey (3), shane and corbin (1), gaus (4), and what i've called Other which is pen days or like. eric fucking lauer (2)

vali catching for dylan (6), max (3), trey (7), shane (2), corbin (9), smiles (2), gaus (11), other (8)

tyler catching for dylan (5), max (3), trey (3), corbin (5), smiles (1), gaus (4), and other (5)

tyler and vali caught in the same game where the starter was gausy (twice), dylan and max (once each)

the only time tyler has replaced kirky was the game kirky got hurt, where dylan was pitching on 4/3

fun facts i've learned include:

vali was more likely to catch for corbin until we moved him to the pen

tyler had not caught for shane this season

kirky has not caught for max or smiles so far

kirky is more likely to catch when dylan starts

vali has been more likely to catch for trey or for bullpen days

vali has had the most starts or splits (replaced by tyler as a pinch hitter/runner) this season

final stats for games started or split between april 3 and july 8 (again, vali and tyler mostly, but tyler did come in after kirky got hurt):

kirky has played 17 games

tyler had played 26 games

vali has played 48 games, bulk of which were played when kirk was out injured
