do you think it would annoy authors if i keep commenting on their works that i have already left kudos and comments before?
(there’s this author where i love to read their series but it’s left unfinished. i keep thinking of leaving comments again maybe to somehow reignite their will to finish it but i also think it’s rather rude, selfish, or mean of me if i do that
i don’t mean any offense. i haven’t commented, asking when they’ll update again, but i keep rereading the series and each time, i’m a little heartbroken that it’s missing it’s conclusion. that’s why i’m asking opinions here if it’s okay to leave comments about how i love the series so much again)
NO COMMENT AS MANY TIMES AS UR HEART DESIRES PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE WE ARE ALL DESPERATE FOR VALIDATION PLEASE
As someone who opened the draft of a series that was left untouched for about 4 years because of a comment from a reader, here's what to do when you find an unfinished series you love so much but want to leave a nice comment on it and worry about being rude:
do NOT ask for update
don't ask why it's not updated yet (chances are, they already explained it many times before)
it's okay to leave a comment on each chapter. talk about what you love about that part, quote a part that stays with you, a dialogue, a scene, anything
tell the writer how much you enjoy reading the story/mention a certain part and say why you love that part specifically
is there some twist in the story that hasn't been revealed yet? drop your theory about it if you have one. this was one of those comments which made me open my draft bc it made me say "oooh that's an interesting theory, but actually, here's what happened..." and release a new chapter as an answer
does the story make you feel something? tell the author what you feel
don't know what to comment? it's okay to scream, drop an emoji, or just keyboard smash
let the writer know how often you've come back to reread the story (sometimes the writer can see it and say "oh I guess I need to give them something new to read" and a new chapter appears)
let the writer know why you enjoy reading (and rereading) it
do NOT remind the writer that the story is unfinished (or even mention or point out about it in any form of comment). they KNOW it's not finished yet. it's probably haunting them too. being reminded of it AGAIN isn't nice, or is it helping in any way
oftentimes a fanfic writer loses their motivation to write due to lack of validation and interaction while they were actively working on a story. "why continue writing this if no one's reading?" is often the question we ask ourselves before saying "yeah, I'm done." Commenting an old story that has been posted on the archive often helps a writer remember why they love writing and started sharing their stories in the first place
This came as a result of Light Novel publishers believing that people don't read the blurbs on the back of the books. So their answer to this was to.... make the blurb the title.
Despite this, however, Light novels with overly long titles have very rarely topped in the best sellers, as the books that sell still tend to sell the best are ones with more traditional short titles.
So of course this trend has no bled over into manga as well because if something bullshit insane marketing scheme is proven to have no real effect other than to confuse and frustrate its consumer you gotta spread that shit to EVERYTHING.
i refuse to believe that image is a title
i cannot read it but it looks like a whole paragraph
Oh this is just the first page.
This Light novel is 196 pages long except it's literally just the title.
This is modern art.

Ppl don't understand... we do live in a studio ghibli film... a world torn apart by war and hatred and ignorance... but we're still finding reasons to keep living and have hope...

love the new ghibli protagonist. what a little freak (affectionate). he has NO chill. a kid shoves him at the start of the movie and he instantly tackles them and proceeds to fight his entire class. he bashed his head in with a rock and tried to walk it off. the bird in his garden was doing funny things and he instantly starts making plans to murder it. was ready to beat the shit out of that pelican. i just know if he was allowed to curse he would have called that heron a bitch ass mother fucker. mahito was NOT fucking around.

I don’t care if this comes off as cruel but you are not entitled to fanfiction. You are not entitled to podfics. You are not entitled to translated works.
Creators are not paid to make fanworks. People spend years of their lives writing fic and getting nothing in return except positive interactions. You can ask to make a translation. You can ask to make a pod fic. But you cannot demand it.
And because the only thing fanfic writers get in return for their work is positive feedback, taking away an authors ability to receive that is disgusting. Authors deserve to have full control and ownership of their works.
Fanfic isn’t a product to consume and then demand more of. Authors and creators deserve better.
