I'm truly trying to post more on this page, both to share things with other WWII history enthusiasts and to create a digital diary for myself, but it's a bit rough! I was almost completely offline for all of the last week of March to work an event, and I wasn't online much the week before that or this week because I was either preparing for that event or playing catch-up. I've missed... quite a bit, in many ways. Anyway, I'll truly try to post more if I can!

in regards to this post I think it's a little bit funny that hbo war tumblr seems to be condemned to live in a perpetual groundhog day situation where every year is 1944 and every new years it's 1945, although the calendar rewinds back to 1944 as soon as January 2nd hits. we're all just doomed to repeat 1944 but specifically dday forever i think that's beautiful

I spent today helping with the National Mighty Eighth Air Force Museum's Flags for the Fallen event. Volunteers placed 26,000 flags across the memorial gardens to honor the 26,000 men of the Eighth Air Force who didn't make it home from WWII, and the names, groups, and death date of each man was played across speakers as you worked. I was out from about 9 a.m. to 3 in the afternoon, and it was a deeply moving experience overall. I highly recommend visiting the museum, and, if you can ever volunteer for Flags for the Fallen, please do.

On May 8th 1945, German forces surrendered, bringing an end to the european side of World War Two. Worldwide, celebrations commenced. Today marks the 79th anniversary of Victory in Europe (or VE) day.

Listening to American WWII aviation historians is always so funny. "Russia is ok but also they screw themselves over". "Germany just kinda sucks by D Day and continues to suck". "America? We're fucking winning. We wanted air supremacy? We got air superiority. Our strategy was great. Our men were great. Our women were great"
