Founded in 1773, South Carolina’s Charleston Museum proudly holds the title of oldest museum in America. During the course of that long history, the museum had the opportunity to acquire a number of specimens of now-extinct birds. Displays are changed out on a rotating basis, but at the moment there are three Carolina Parakeets, two Passenger Pigeons, two Ivory Billed woodpeckers, a Bachman’s Warbler (with nest), and a South Island giant Mia skeleton on public view (plus a couple of other parakeet appearances around the museum). Well worth a visit if you happen to find yourself in South Carolina.

In class today we were talking about designs for promotional postcards for our museums next exhibition, and we were going round and round about what pictures we wanted for the front and what kind of text and how big and did we want more than one design and more than one set of text and then we suggested that we leave the front entirely for the artwork and put all the identifying information on the back since all of us like to collect the postcards from shows we've worked on and our professor, who is the director of our museum and who has been working in museums since before any of us were born was totally shocked and touched, because she had never considered the fact that we were proud enough of our shows to keep the promo materials

There’s an exhibition of the 19th century fashion at the Riga Fashion Museum and also of dolls inspired by various famous perfume fragrances (the girl in red, for instance, represents Krasnaya Moskva, one of the most popular Soviet-made perfumes). The fifth photo is one of those gowns decorated with beetle wings - it was incredible to see one with my own eyes!
