This was weirdly difficult for him. Maybe it was just awkward. «Yes. I have been dating her and I would like to inform you that I plan on proposing to her.»  

“I was not lying, I was attempting a joke. I am simply no good at it, it seems.” Poor Milla, she wouldn’t know a sense of humor growing up due to Amara’s horrible jokes... “Proposing?” She repeated, her eyes wide. “Oh my... wow.”

What’s it like knowing Silas is now engaged to someone else?

I am happy for him, of course! But also... it does hurt... on a level. I always thought it would be him and I who would be engaged, who would wed. I always thought he would be my first... now thats never going to happen. After all we went through.... and as happy as I am for him that’ll never stop hurting.

“Yes, I agree.” She said with a kind smile. Not that she knew many names of this century, she only knew names from her own time and the little she learned from the new people she’d met. “Oh! She is a doppleganger of mine, or she had been... before I changed bodies.”

❝Milla? That is adorable.❞ The name Amara should have alerted her. She knew the story about the original doppelgängers, but that was the point: This Amara did not look like her mother. There was a chance that she swapped her body too, but the vampire refused to be so paranoid. That Amara was not the only Amara in the world. ❝It’s nice to meet you. I’m Nadia Petrova.❞ A last name she tried to hide as much as possible, but come on. This woman was feeding beans to her daughter. It was unlikely that she would jump at her.

“Thank you, it was my mother’s name.” She said pleasantly. “Petrova?” She repeated with a tilt of her head. “Any relation to Katerina?” She found herself smiling as the thought bloomed. she liked it, the thought of another relative.

“Yes?” It failed, obviously. Sadly. She wait patiently for his words, with a smile upon her lips. “Yes, of course. You were... dating her, correct?”
