Amid all the chaos of my Tumblr technical issues (it’s been a very frustrating beginning of the year) I have hit 300 followers! ACHIEVEMENT ACQUIRED SOUND!!! I don’t even know how that happened, but I am thankful for each and every one of out. Because of this, I’ve decided to do a giveaway!!

One of my least favourite dialogue tropes is when a man tells a woman “you can’t do that” or “I wouldn’t do that if I were you” and she says “why? because I’m a woman and therefore too weak to handle this/can’t take care of myself?” or something to that extent and the guy replies with “no, because everyone who tried that ended up with a bullet in their brain” or something equally reasonable and not gender specific that paints him as the rational not sexist guy and the woman as irrational paranoid feminist who searches for sexism in everything. This whole scenario is built on the idea that sexism is over and women’s fears and suspicions don’t have a leg to stand on. It’s also self-congratulatory pseudofeminism bc it’s supposed to make the viewer/reader/listener feel that in this specific work of fiction women are treated respectfully and as equal with men.

Allow me to throw my two cents into the mockery of Adam Driver’s looks.

Just don’t. Make fun of Kylo Ren’s asshattery all you want, but leave Driver’s looks out of it. He seems like a thoughtful, awkward guy who has expressed hating seeing or hearing himself in interviews and his performances. He’s a former Marine. He runs a non-profit organization. He did a great job acting wise with Kylo.

 but where the fuck where yall when john boyega was getting shit? if adam driver’s biggest problem is not getting cast as a “handsome carpenter” then he is literally winning at life. Oscar Isaac and John Boyega literally have to work 10 times as hard as him. John especially being a dark skinned black man. I really don’t have the fuckin time for yall to have an ugly 40k+ note post circulate defending a white mans self confidence when he literally gets what he wants without having to try as hard as his counterparts (daisy ridley, oscar, and john). like he is still getting more attention than they are when they are the leads. like a select few people finding him ugly doesnt fucking reinforce anything. people were dragging john boyega being black and dark skinned through the mud when he was cast as a lead for star wars. there were hardly any posts circulating like this. adam driver not being attractive really does not take much away from him career wise. like the fact that he and yall are complaining about it is white privilege in a nutshell. i wish yall were this devoted when people were being ANTIBLACK and RACIST to john boyega who actually can’t find actual roles because he isn’t white like adam driver. like damn, how fuckin trivial who give a fuck if he can play a carpenter or not when people like john and oscar have to deal with the fact that most of the time it’s not even their talent being evaluated when it comes to them being cast in movies. all it takes is one look at their skin color.

“A Facebook user recently commented that the Eagles had “played like they were wearing tutus!!!” Our response: “With all due respect to the Eagles, let’s take a minute to look at what our tutu wearing women have done this month: By tomorrow afternoon, the ballerinas that wear tutus at Pennsylvania Ballet will have performed The Nutcracker 27 times in 21 days. Some of those women have performed the Snow scene and the Waltz of the Flowers without an understudy or second cast. No ‘second string’ to come in and spell them when they needed a break. When they have been sick they have come to the theater, put on make up and costume, smiled and performed. When they have felt an injury in the middle of a show there have been no injury timeouts. They have kept smiling, finished their job, bowed, left the stage, and then dealt with what hurts. Some of these tutu wearers have been tossed into a new position with only a moments notice. That’s like a cornerback being told at halftime that they’re going to play wide receiver for the second half, but they need to make sure that no one can tell they’ve never played wide receiver before. They have done all of this with such artistry and grace that audience after audience has clapped and cheered (no Boo Birds at the Academy) and the Philadelphia Inquirer has said this production looks “better than ever”.
