“i guess. i think she just misses having someone to dote on around the house. empty nest syndrome, or whatever. if lake placid flooded, that means we’ve lost one school by fire and another by water. i’m going to go out on a limb here and guess earth and air are close behind. avoid california and probably the midwest, just to be safe.” he shrugged off the hero talk, even hypothetical hero talk. “i’m no hero. i put my colored tights on one leg at a time, just like everyone else.”
“your mum sounds lovely, aaron. you had better write her soon and thank her for the jumpers, okay? add a picture of you wearing one, too -- i’m sure she’d really like that.” moria inhaled before addressing the rest of what he said, running her fingers through her hair and biting her lip. “let’s hope that we at least get the chance to graduate before the earth and air disasters come into the picture. moving once was stressful enough; i can’t imagine what doing it twice was like for you.”
she rolled her eyes, smiling with a soft laugh. “oh, aren’t you humble? don’t worry -- i believe you. you might just be a normal, boring guy -- but if i’m ever in trouble, i’m gonna call you first.”
