Are you coming in or staying out there?
If Danielle ever got married (which is the biggest if to ever be an if), it would probably be a shotgun wedding. If (another huge if) she managed to fall in love and sign herself over to some man willing to deal with her constant bullshit, she wouldn’t want anyone to ruin it. She’d want to take him and hide him away so they could spend the rest of their lives together. Dani thrived for attention, sure, but if she was ever in an actual marriage, she’d want it to succeed and not in the way that her parents’ marriage had. “Really? You’d still want grandchildren, even if they’re spawns of Lance?” Dani didn’t bother to reply at his scolding; it was too much to ask and he knew that. Be nice to Alexander. Ha.
Although he was playing around with Danielle right now, he truly did want her to find love and settle down with someone. He wanted someone that would inspire her to change her ways and stop using and acting out all the time. “Yes, I would want grandchildren no matter the father of your child…even Lance.” Really, he did not want Lannister grandchildren, but he would survive. Family was family, even though it seemed the Arryns have strayed away from this concept.
Every time someone in her family expressed their dislike for Lance Lannister (really, though, it was only her father that expressed anything towards her— Mason didn’t care enough and her mother and Alexander basically ignored her), it made her want to spend more time with him all that much more. It made her want to marry him. Which, honestly, is the only time she’ll ever want to do it and would never go through with it. “What, you don’t think Mrs. Danielle Lannister has a ring to it? I like it.” She shook her head at his next statement. “Exactly. A kid.”
Of course, Danielle’s reaction would be that. He shows genuine concern about her choices in life and she reacts by saying something outrageous like marrying a Lannister. “Sounds darling, after thinking about it I think you should go for it. Perhaps a Vegas wedding would be nice, get an Elvis preacher and anything. Do I get any grandchildren out of this?" He gives her a stern look, "be nice about your brother."
"My mother appreciates a lot of things that I say."
Dani was aware she literally just rolled her eyes, but she couldn’t stop herself from doing it again. The Lannister remark somehow hit a soft spot and ticked her off, but the sentimentality of Alexander made her want to barf more. “Why can’t you leave him out of it completely? I’m not going to marry him or anything like that, god.” She sighed. “Alexander is a baby.”
"I will be sure to inform you that you think she is an old bat."
A sigh left Brian’s lips; he truly thought they could keep things civil. This it however, he had no one to blame since he subtly brought up the Lannister boy. Why can’t you stop fucking around with him in public? He thought to himself, but somehow managed to keep that to himself. “Because, I care about you and the choices you make. Glad to hear you aren’t that stupid to marry him.” Brian stared at her, “how is your brother a baby? Because he hopes for us to be better? He deserves betters, he is a good kid.”
Dani rolled her eyes. “The truth hurts.”
"Ooh, couldn’t resist getting a Lannister remark in, huh? To think, we were having a civil conversation. This is the stuff Alexander dreams of, you know. A civil family."
"I am sure your mother appreciates those words."
"Come on, what is a little Lannister humor between us? We are still having a civil conversation." Brian smiled at the thought of his youngest child. "He isn't the only one that dreams of such things. Sadly, he is probably the one that holds to the idea of it."
"I don’t know how to tell you this, Dad, but they’re both crazy old bats. This family never had a chance, on either side."
"Nothing to do with you? Nah. He’ll let you see them. He needs someone to watch them while he looks at himself and I don’t do kids. They’re sticky and gross. Just like Willa!"
"I agree about your mom's mother, but that is no way to speak about your mother." Brian cocked a brow and pointed to himself, "great genetic material right here."
"No, he'll let your mother see them and I might be able to catch a glimpse. Now come on Dani, I am sure there are a lot of eligible bachelors out there that would line up for you, preferably over the age of twenty."
"I love grandmother. She’s the most sane out of anyone."
“I’m your best hope? I’ve never heard those words before in my life… anyways, Mason and Willa would be your best bet. They’re probably already expecting. I walked in on them a few weeks ago and of course, Willa being the dramatic, was such a screamer.”
"No honey, you're thinking about my mother. You're grandma on your mother's side is a crazy old bat."
"Yes, but Mason has nothing to do with me and I am stunned he is able to stop staring at himself in a mirror long enough to get someone else off other than himself. But glad to know Willa was enjoying it."
"Because she’s crazy."
"Oh god. I hope not."
"Well you met your grandmother, where do you think she gets it from?"
"Why not? I would love to have some grandchildren before I am dead and you're my best hope. Do your old man a solid."
"Appreciative and sentimental are two different things. Besides, you don’t want to give Mom anything that she wants."
"Oh, yes it is. Let’s be real."
"Why wouldn't I want to give your mother what she wants?"
"You should try to learn them or you might end up with a child just like yourself, which reminds me are you ever going to give me any grandchildren?"
"Aw, how sentimental. If I didn’t already barf everything in my stomach last night, it’d come up right now."
"Say please. No manners, and you ask where we get it from."
"Maybe I should have your mother cancel your credit cards for me since you do not seem very appreciative."
"I'm fifty-two, it is too late for me to learn any. It is not too late for you though."
"You know, I don’t think you’re the type to do that. Mom would cut me off in a heartbeat. But she’s crazy, don’t ever let her control the money."
"….cheese. Like, triple, double, tons and tons of cheese. And sausage."
"I should, but you're right I do want you kids to have everything you need and want." Brian laughed and shook his head. "No worries there, I prefer to control the finances."
"My type of pizza, how about you go get me a beer and I'll order the pizza."
"I’d never call you stupid, daddy."
"Why? Scared I might cancel your credit cards under my name?"
"Anyway what type of pizza do you want?"
"Oh, don’t worry. I’d call you if I was in jail."
"What am I the only one stupid enough to answer and bail you out?"
"So much effort. You ask too much. Or not enough. Either way, I got beer. Technically, you’re paying for it, too, but I won’t tell if you don’t.”
Brian chuckled, "so it is too much effort to give your old man a call just to let him know you aren't in jail or dead?" He rolled his eyes, "sounds about right. I pay for everything else it seems."
