This is likely a stretch, but between the Hatchetfield Universe= Groundhog Day type theory, and the planning of Black Friday to include ticking at both the beginning and the end, Emma’s panicked screaming of “It’s just a fucking loop?” seems like it could be more than just a fourth wall joke. We know that the order determined for the Hatchetfield Universe is Nerdy Prudes Must Die, Black Friday, The Guy Who Didn’t Like Musicals, and Black Friday ended with characters we KNOW from The Guy Who Didn’t Like Musicals and a smoke motif that carries into the beginning of TGWDLM, the “Last remaining story to tell”/ “Thrice, you have defied us”. Not to mention that TGWDLM is the only musical in the Starkid universe thus far (INCLUDING Black Friday) to include the bows in the YouTube recording.

I also have the inkling of a thought that Jane Houston Nee Perkins is a root in the Hatchetfield Tragedies, and she herself may have been a Nerdy Prude, but this may all be my thinking too far into it.

I do wholeheartedly believe that Emma is right. It’s just a fucking loop.

All right so like I have a theory of the Hatchetfield laws - things that are constant with each alternate timelines.

Jane always dies in a car crash;

Paul and Emma meet - it usually becomes romantic;

General McNamara;

Hatchetfield is always targeted by aliens or deities;

Professor Hidgens;

Emma's pot farm;

there is always an iconic musical within the diegesis, whether iconic outside the narrative (in this case Working Boys, as only three people knew about it and all died) or inside the narrative (Santa Claus Goes to High School, as a teen film that's well known and mentioned);

Peanuts the squirrel;

it has the same characters - those who aren't seen are mentioned and they never remove characters, only add;

fuck Clivesdale.

I probably missed some but I'm pretty sure there's some running constants like certain characters doing certain things.

Nothing you do will ever be waste.

Did you end up scrapping a WIP you’ve worked on for years? Not a waste! Sure that WIP might not be something you’re actively working on anymore, but it gave you so much good practice. You learned so much about how to craft a story, your prose has improved so much as a result of it, and the fun you’ve had while working on it still means something really valuable.

Did you fall out of love with a character you made? Not a waste! Every single detail you researched for this character, every single trait you gave them… That’s going to help you in the next character you make. You’re better at character creation because of that character you might not use anymore.

Did your plot veer into a completely different direction, and now the majority of what you’ve written for your WIP doesn’t fit? Not a waste! That change wouldn’t have happened if you hadn’t already written for your WIP. It gave you a better idea of your WIP and what it needs, and your story is better for it. 

Every single success, every single failure has contributed to the amazing writer that you are today. 

Nothing is a waste, nothing you do will be a waste — it’s all meaningful and important!
