Make it pink, make it blue 🪄⋆｡ °✩
Did you know that Sleeping Beauty's running gag of Flora and Merryweather arguing over the shade of Aurora's gown is actually based upon the animators real life argument whether she should be in pink or blue?!
Following the initial release of Sleeping Beauty, Aurora was mostly marketed in her blue gown. Aurora's blue gown has significantly more screen time than the pink in the movie. However, Disney ended up switching her to pink to differentiate her from the blue already seen in Snow White and Cinderella's designs. Technically, in the lore of the movie, the pink dress is the original, given that the gown was designed by Flora who favored the pink.
Interestingly, the 1959 movie poster shows the dress being a darker, red/maroon color.
Most play line Sleeping Beauty dolls and toys have Aurora in pink. The blue gown tends to make appearances in limited edition and collector grade dolls.
And, of course, I can't wrap up this post without mentioning Sleeping Beauty's iconic ending scene, where Flora and Merryweather continue their pink and blue battle on Aurora's gown as she waltzes with Prince Phillip.
