ok fine I'll post all my art on tumblr, I have a huge backlog of stuff to get through though. I'm just gonna queue up everything that's on my ig already and tag it with #art backlog and #old art if it's over a month old. Anything made for an assignment will be tagged with #art school, and all of it regardless of source or date will be tagged with briarisaac's art so it's easy to find. I still haven't finished getting through my backlog on there either, my secret satan piece is the only recent piece I've posted in quite a while. I'll get there someday. Now do I go in chronological order and post the oldest stuff first or do I just shuffle it...
This was my piece for the summer 2025 Secret Satan, a lovely OC art trade event! This was my first time participating, and it was a lot of fun. I drew @enkairo-designs character Firefly! It was definitely a bit of an experiment, particularly with the sheer sleeves. I ended up just coloring the arms normally, putting down a layer of white colored pencil on top, then adding the lines with a white paint pen. Then touched it up digitally of course since I still didn't like it :/
Traditional, colored with Prismacolor markers and colored pencils, lined in pen, paint pen details, digital touch ups made in Samsung gallery app; 5.5" x 8.5"
Kazimir, the thri-kreen barbarian, as an attack for @zephyrbug !! I wanted to draw this bug for the LONGEST time and I finally got the opportunity for it- And I even faced a lot of green to get this done! I'm honestly happy with the result, even when it was a bit experimental (and was flat-colored with my offhand-)
like the betrayal’s always going to be worse if they cared about you and it didn’t matter. someone discards you because they didn’t give a shit, then you can be angry about that, you can feel vindicated in that, you can get over it. but if they can look you in the eyes and say “I love you. I would make the same choice again.” You will never sleep peacefully again, is all.
“I thought they cared about me, but they were lying this whole time.” <- tired. boring. removes all the nuance of this relationship to make it easier to move on from.
“I thought they cared about me, and I was right, and every minute they were there for me, every time they said they were proud, every laugh we shared leaning against each other bruised and breathless, all of it was real. and they still left me behind. They could put their love aside. I couldn’t.” <- insane. will never leave you alone. reminds you that even the worst people are still people and can still care about even the ones they hurt the most and that undoes neither the harm nor the love.
okay. something about the way i worded this is making people think this is a vent thing about real relationships. and it’s fine if that’s where it took you. but i feel like i need to be transparent here: this be blorboposting. karlach cliffgate and her terrible awful no good very bad betrayal.
There’s a theory that early Europeans started saying “brown one” or “honey-eater” instead of “bear” to avoid summoning them, and similarly my friend has started calling Alexa “the faceless woman” because saying her true name awakens her from her slumber
English has an avoidance register used in the presence of certain respected animals, which sounds fancy until you realize it’s spelling out w-a-l-k and t-r-e-a-t in front of the dog.
Iceland does! They are the illhveli, literally “evil whales”, and they live to kill you. They love nothing more than killing and eating humans and sinking their ships. Their greatest enemy is the steypireydur (that’s blue whale to you), which is the greatest of the good whales and the protector of sailors.
All evil whales are, well, evil. So evil that if you speak their name at sea, they will hear it and home in on you. So instead you use all sorts of euphemisms for their names. Also if you try to cook their meat it literally disappears from the pot. That’s right, they’re so evil, you can’t even eat them.
They include such types as the hrosshvalur (horsewhale), with big eyes and a red mane and tail. This is probably the best known and most feared of the lot.
The raudkembingur (redcomb) is especially cruel and bloodthirsty even by illhveli standards. If you manage to escape it, it will die of frustration.
Good luck escaping the mushveli (mousewhale) though, it has legs! And will clamber onto the beach in pursuit!
Or what about death from above? The stökkull (jumper) leaps high into the air and pile-drives boats to pieces.
Meanwhile the skeljungur (shellwhale) sits in the path of boats and lets them get wrecked on its shelly hide…
… while the sverdhvalur (swordwhale) slices through boats with its dorsal fin.
The katthveli (catwhale) is relatively harmless though. It meows.
The same can’t be said of the lyngbakur (heatherback), a classic island fish that lets sailors get on its back and then dives, taking them to a watery grave.
The nauthveli (oxwhale) on the other hand specially targets cattle, attracting them into the sea with its bellow before tearing them apart.
How can you avoid all these murderous whales, like the taumafiskur (bridlefish) here? Any of a number of ways, including getting a steypireydur to help. There are substances, ranging from angelica to sheep dung and chopped fox testicles, that they find abhorrent. And you can distract them with loud noises and barrels.
For more, I assure you this link will answer all your questions.
Due to my weird childhood and my weird brain, I have this very unhelpful compulsion to conceal Everything I do from Everyone. I Cannot be observed performing any action, no matter how mundane. My nervous system is convinced I'm gonna, like, Get In Trouble for eating food at dinnertime or sleeping in my bed at bedtime.
I've taken to asking myself, "Okay does this task actually require subterfuge or am I stealing a balloon on Free Balloon Day"
I'm DMing tomorrow for the first time in ages (yipee!), and while prepping stuff for this I checked few things from the main campaign, and I must present you: The full name of one of the main campaign's PCs
Hell yeah I love elaborate naming conventions, my current Skyrim PC is named Usur-kanat Nerevar-idan-nabi. His parents and two siblings are similarly named, and all the names have translations too :)
