✱ BRIARPORT is a 21+ oc slice of life small town university roleplay group hosted on discord set around briar university, a private coastal institution built on wealth & privilege, located in south carolina. when the georgetown public university was forced to permanently close its doors after years of financial struggles, and ultimately declaring bankruptcy, its students are relocated into briarport’s campus, disrupting the school’s social order. there is heavy focus on drama and secrets, all amplified by an anonymous account known as the portline who constantly leaks scandals from both sides. loosely based off of outer banks, gossip girl, and elite.

❝ THE STATUS FRIEND ❞ ⸺ this is the friend who exists in juliet's world because they earned it, not emotionally, but socially. they know how to move in her circles, how to behave at the right events, say the right things, smile at the right people. juliet doesn’t fully trust them, but she trusts their usefulness. muse b probably knows a lot about her, and juliet knows that. there’s a mutual understanding that this friendship is kind of transactional, but also weirdly consistent. they’re one of the few people she’ll actually show up for without questioning it too much.

we took the feedback from our first run seriously, which is why we made a couple of changes going into the revamp. we added two new activity rules aimed at encouraging more interaction across the server: muses are expected to participate in group chats rather than only communicating through private messages, and ships can only be established after one week ooc. the second rule isn’t because we think shipping is a bad thing, it absolutely isn’t, but during our first run we noticed that some muses ended up interacting almost exclusively within their romantic dynamics, and we’d like to encourage people to build friendships, rivalries, group dynamics, and connections outside of that first.

we’re also now a team of three admins instead of two, which gives us a lot more room to keep an eye on activity and step in if we notice people unintentionally falling into isolated bubbles. our goal isn’t to police how people write, but to create an environment where everyone has opportunities to interact and feel included.

obviously no server can guarantee that cliques will never form, since friend groups irl are much like that too, but we’re much more aware of the issue this time around and have put measures in place to actively discourage it instead of just hoping it doesn’t happen !

after a lot of deliberation, briarport’s admin team has decided to revamp and restart our server from the beginning, this time starting from the fall semester and following the student body of briar u throughout the year. we plan on keeping the same plot and locations, tweaking only small things to make your experience as a mun better going forward. we will be re-opening as fast as possible to make sure everyone can continue their personal plotlines and we hope you all choose to stay with us when the server re-opens. ♡

hello anon ! we’re aware of it, yes.

university mergers aren’t exactly a brand new concept, so we’re not claiming ownership over the idea of two institutions coming together. what raised eyebrows for us was the fact that someone joined our server, went through the application process, spent a few days lurking around without doing anything ic, and then shortly after left and started their own server with a very similar premise. while some details have been changed, such as shifting the rivalry dynamic from wealth & class divisions to a university versus university divide, the overall concept remains strikingly similar. from what we’ve also been shown, there are similarities in formatting, structure, and the inclusion of greek houses, which isn’t something we personally have seen very often in university roleplay settings, but correct me if i’m wrong. we’ve also noticed that parts of the muse application appear similar to our own, with the wording rearranged or altered rather than being entirely original.

we’re focused on our own community and the stories we’re building; people can draw their own conclusions, and we’d rather spend our time and energy on continuing to develop the plot we’re proud of rather than engaging in public drama. that being said, if you would like to join us, you can click the link in the source !

such a great question, nonnie ! we do not have a mun cap as of right now, but this could potentially change once applications start rolling in. at opening, muns may join with up to three muses initially & after two weeks of consistent activity, additional muses may be requested one at a time with a one week waiting period between each application !
