Sitting there and watching Brittany, Santana could barely believe that the two were in each otherâs presence again. Honestly, she wasnât sure if this day would ever come again. They were living two different lives in two different cities. But, it seemed as if the universe had other plans for them. She listened intently to the girl across the table from her, wanting to be caught up on her life and what it all entailed. âSometimes coffee can do that, so just be careful with it. Maybe you need some decaf every once in a while?â
Under normal circumstances, Santana would already have Brittanyâs hand in hers as she reaches across the table. However, things were different now. She took in her words and gave Brittany a smile. Things between them were awkward, and Santana hated that for the two of them. It would take a while for them to get back to their old ways, should they ever make it back to that. âEveryone is going to be so happy to have you with us out here. Trust me, New York is unlike anywhere else. Iâm sure that you will love it.âÂ
Her eyebrows shot up and she smiled, not wanting to make Brittany feel uncomfortable at the idea of being at the pot luck. âOh! Yeah, absolutely. I mean, you are apart of our friend group. All friends are welcome.â Santana was happy that there was another confirmed day that she would be seeing her. And hopefully, things would go smooth as it would be a big group of them together.Â
âThatâs great, Britt!â Santana smiled genuinely at her, wanting to show that her support was still there and still strong. Her smile fell off her face as she listened more intently, her face morphing into confusion. âWait - what do you mean, pads?â It wasnât something that she anticipated hearing, so she wanted to hear a bit more about it. Â
Brittany nodded, laughing quietly. "I always forget about decaf. This is why I missed having you around... I mean, I miss making sense and having someone to pull me back. But, that needs to be my job right now. And I have Blaine now. He's always really nice." She kept feeling an urge to reach out to Santana for help like she used to, but she was trying not to overwhelm their first meeting since the breakup.
She was glad that going to the potluck wasn't going to be weird. It was obviously going to be awkward and a little uncomfortable since they weren't together. But, at the very least, Santana didn't seem outright opposed to her going. "This city is just really big and fast, so it's nice to be around people that let me go a little bit slower. You know... Stop, breathe, look both ways. All that stuff."
She nodded a little, blowing at the coffee before taking a small test sip. "They use the pads on my brain. Because I'm interesting, I guess. They're trying to get to know me, but talking to me is really hard for them. So, we use the pads and they give me tests. And then I get to go to school so that I can help. I just want to help people and they said school is how I do that."
