I have many thoughts on season 4 of Bridgerton as a whole. A lot of my thoughts aren’t positive.

I don’t know what these writers are thinking. I’ve always had a problem with them shrinking away from previous leads. I understand those couples won’t have significant storylines but…the side plots of other characters that are not Bridgertons takes bigger precedence when they could dedicate it to actual Bridgertons.

Here’s some other random thoughts:

1. Pacing - the longer episodes felt almost too long. The pacing once again was just off.

2. I feel like as much as people want Eloise as a season 5 lead I can’t ignore how much of Francesca was in part 2. Probably half of the second half was Francesca and they shied away from Eloise. I know they need to build Francesca a little bit a lot of what we saw should fall within her season (the grief process especially what we saw with Violet). I don’t know if it was a great idea to kill John this season I think it could’ve happened at another time.

3. Marcus and Violet. What a mess. Why why why would they spend so much time developing this for Violet to suddenly want to rediscover herself. Sorry. Make it make sense. I’m wondering if maybe the spinoff with be an Edmund/Violet or lady Danbury so maybe that’s why. But it’s just not great writing to me.

4. Polin. Pissed. Beyond pissed. There’s multiple things to talk about here. First - Polin as a whole. I’m glad we got to see them together and happy however it just felt disjointed. We should have been able to get Polin against the world. Why are they not writing together? Why don’t we see Colin sucking on Penelope’s neck while she’s writing a whistledown? Why don’t we see more of them being insufferable in their own home? They could have made a storyline about Portia wanting control of their household and Polin trying to manage the estate for their son.

Penelope - no no no no. I don’t have a problem with Penelope ending LW. I do have a problem with how they went about it and what happened afterward. Why in the world would the focus of Polins season for Penelope to want it all: the man, the job if she was just going to reveal herself and then end her column shortly after? She could have easily said she was done at the end of season 3 and season 4 could have been a different focus for her. The writers don’t know how to write LW and the fact Jess Brownell said that Penelope was Julia Quinn’s version of LW and they’re shifting to their own version. NO. There is one lady whistledown. How disrespectful is that to the character and to Nicola who put 10000% into Penelope. Even if Penelope decided she couldn’t do it and facilitated the change I would have preferred that to someone else just randomly taking Lady Whistledowns name which is what Penelope fought Cressida for last season. This is what I’m most upset about for this season.

Colin - they do not know how to write Colin. Kudos to Luke Newton for having developed Colin on his own and knowing the character so so well. Part 1 was atrocious for Colin. I think Luke Newton had another job or something so it makes sense he needed to be absent from some scenes but…they blurred him and cut off his head in shots. Part 2 was a little better for him. It’s made me want a spin off with the Featheringtons and the men going on their monthly food tour of London. But the fact that he barely had anything to do frustrated me to no end. It’s a repeat of his own season when he’s the Bridgerton and there wasn’t a whole lot of focus on him and more on Penelope. I got so mad at one point I shed a tear because I was so mad for Colin and Luke Newton. Like what a waste of his talent and his love for Bridgerton and his character.

They paraded Luke Newton out for promo when the man had about 10 minutes of total screen time. The character promo videos and a lot of what they put out early and consistently has been Polin. I am convinced they leaked the carriage scene themselves because season 3 pulled big numbers and they want to use them but not provide the characters with anything to prove it’s worthwhile.

At this point Colin and Penelope feel so ruined for me that I’d rather they not be in future seasons and I can create my own canon for them in my head. After this season I feel very done with Bridgerton as a whole. I feel too deep in it and have some unrealistic expectations for it to be a purely romance show with a tiny bit of drama. With Shondaland in charge it’ll never be that but I’ve seen other shows do it much much better.

Now…I couldn’t get past the fact that the teaser was on the Featherington staircase and we need to talk speculation. I’m so Polin obsessed I just kept asking why they were in Featherington House the whole time I watched the teaser. I’ve seen some theories floating around and I wanted to post my thoughts:

1. The photos that had been released awhile back of the new Featherington aesthetic and the walls were yellow and blue. Not two different shades of blue like we see in the teaser. So…either they hadn’t finished the set when the photos were released or…maybe this was prior to the final product of the yellow? Either way…it’s blue on blue in the teaser so we’ll see.

2. Why are they in Featherington House? Some different options here:

a. Masquerade ball is held at Featherington House instead of Bridgerton House. In season 1 and I think in season 3 Portia makes mention of the coming together of the families and creating an alliance. At the end of season 3 Eloise mentions to Ben she wouldn’t miss their mama’s masquerade ball. So…perhaps this is the alliance coming out? Portia putting on the ball with Violet? Perhaps this is Lord Featherington’s first ball and his grandmama’s took over. I’m down but also nostalgic so just hoping it makes sense.

b. Sophie works for the Featheringtons. I don’t put much into this theory because we’ve seen Sophie dressed and pictured with the Bridgerton staff so safe to assume she’s working in Bridgerton House.

c. The fact they’re there doesn’t have anything to do with where the ball is held and is just in the teaser for symbolism or an underlying theme of season 4.

d. They filmed it in Featherington House for no good reason. Perhaps to just connect season 3 to season 4. Maybe there is some significance to it or Netflix just thinks they’re being clever. Don’t know.

I think these are the major options and I’m between the first and the third. I could also see Bridgerton throwing everything out the window and having Penelope host the ball instead of Violet because that’s something they’d do. Very reminiscent of how Penelope masked herself as Whistledown for years. I’m not hoping for this but I’m just saying I wouldn’t put it past the powers that be at Bridgerton to do this.

Let the speculating and season 4 hopes and dreams commence!

I’ve full on crashed out y’all. Luke and Nicola just know how to take us out. I don’t know how I’m alive and kicking right now and the ceremony didn’t even start. The way Luke found Nic on the carpet and then they just proceeded to do all the interviews together. The way they’re talking about Baby Polin like it’s actually their child. “We have a super cute baby” “yeah we do” y’all need to stop because I’m not going to survive you.

The way the breath literally left my body for a solid 30 seconds. My god! We got a reunion!

Edit: can we also for once get this man’s reaction on his literal face. We always get nothing! It’s the wedding dress all over again at least we kinda see his face.

We also saw our queen Nicola. She is definitely going to end up on the worst dressed list but I don’t care. My love for Nicola does not care what she wears.

It’s SAG AWARDS DAY!!! Which means hopefully we get to see some of our Bridgerton cast all dolled up on the red carpet. Naturally I like to make predictions for fun. Here are some:

1. We won’t see Jonathan Bailey tonight. With doing his play I don’t know if we’ll see him at all. I checked their schedules and there aren’t any shows on Sundays and next performance is tomorrow evening but still…I will be pleasantly surprised and very happy if we do see him just not sure if we will.

2. Nicola looking stunning. Please god. Her last few outings she’s picked some different styles and it’s quite a departure from what we usually see from her so I’m hoping for some Hollywood glam from Nicola. Channel her inner Barbie. That was one of my most favorite looks from her. Also predicting maybe back in something more colorful but I won’t mind black either. It’s what she’s been going with lately so I won’t be shocked but I think she’ll go back to some color. Which color? I’m not a magician or anything but I’d love to see her in maroon/red again or maybe something lighter. And I’m predicting something a little more form fitting from her tonight.

3. Lukey Newts back in a suit. I actually think he’ll go bow tie which we haven’t seen in awhile. He’ll channel his inner James Bond. I think his usual tank with a shirt or jacket over won’t fly for the SAG awards.

4. I don’t think we see Luke T today. I think him and some other actors will remain in London filming. This isn’t uncommon for tv shows during award season. Just not sure who else might not show up.

5. I think we’ll see Claudia, Ruth, Adjoa and Golda. Along with others who have already shown they’re in LA like Hannah.

6. To all those who think we’ll get a huge cast photo. I highly doubt it. Unless a bunch of the cast arrive all together they will all arrive at different times and it’s not like a premiere will they will all gather for a photo. Maybe inside the venue we might get some candids or a few actors posing together as they mingle but I wouldn’t hold your breath for a large cast photo unless they win and as much as we’d love it I don’t expect them to win tonight.

7. I’m not making any predictions about plus ones or significant others or whatever or putting it out into the universe. I know what I would love but it’s not going to happen tonight and I also don’t want to disappoint myself if others show up tonight.

It’s one final time to really celebrate season 3 and the amazing work everyone did on the season so let’s enjoy it!!

There’s been a lot of discourse recently with Luke and Nicola and Lukola in general and their relationships with other people.

I’ve always been on the Lukola ship in the sense that I just love whatever their relationship is to them. Would I love for them to be romantically involved and together forever? Yeah. Is that happening now? No.

Saw pictures of Luke at an event today which he brought Antonia to and all I have to say is … put that side by side with an image on Luke and Nicola and you can see a noticeable difference in body language. Whatever Luke and Antonia’s relationship…from what I’ve seen of them together it just looks off. They both look stiff as boards and like they’d rather be anywhere other than where they are. Other than his hand on her waist the distance between their bodies seems telling to me.

Looking at pictures from the world tour it’s vastly different and that’s all I’m going to say.

The fact that Luke Newton only refers to Nicola as Nic gives me life. Someone please tell me if any of her other friends or costars have called her Nic and not Nicola. Luke will refer to her as Nicola if she isn’t there and he even called her Nicola in front of her and he was like “that felt weird I never call you Nicola” bro…the love is showing.

Here’s a Bridgerton thought for the day.

Bro, when were you in France?! Colin has done two tours. The first one is the only one that Penelope wrote to him and he was in Greece the whole time. Someone please correct me if I’m wrong, but there was no mention of him going anywhere other than Greece. Because when Colin got back he wouldn’t shut up about the trees and olives and things.

Entirely possible he went to Paris on his literal world tour during the second tour but Penelope didn’t respond to any of his letters so…

WHY?! And why does it annoy me they couldn’t stick with some continuity?

I’ve stayed quiet with most things Lukola mainly because I’ve just been so busy and haven’t had much time for Tumblr blogging.

Here’s my overall thoughts and in not any particular order because they’re all jumbled anyway.

1. I don’t think N and L have ever been “together”. I’ve seen a few people say they think they dated at some point during filming but I don’t think they would have. Should they? Yeah. Will they? I’m so so hopeful. But if there are feelings (which I do believe there were during filming and are currently) I think they would choose to not be together because of working together and their friendship because that shit gets messy if it goes sour.

2. All of the little nuggets N left is throughout this weekend were INSANE and absolutely UNHINGED. I’ve heard some things that there was maybe a bridgerton table read but I have no evidence that happened. I have a hard time believing they’re not about L because who else would it really be about. I know N is really private but I feel like we’d have some other clues if it was someone else.

3. I do believe L and A are over. If they even began. That whole thing. I don’t want to speculate over any of it really so I’ll just go off my impression from the images I’ve seen. All pictures I’ve seen A has looked really wanting to cling and making it seem forceful whereas L has always looked miserable. The pap pictures. The GQ pictures. The vacation pictures. All of it she’s there smiling and he looks like he’d rather be anywhere else in the world. L has also never posted about her or made any claim that they were an official couple. So I’m assuming there wasn’t ever any labels put on it by the two of them but what do I know. It seemed like Italy sent something off the rails and I think things ended.

4. The only thing that has me hesitant about all of N’s recent posts being about L is that it’s so soon after Italy went down. I’m not a relationship guru but if I were N I’d be putting on the brakes and not diving headfirst but if I also finally realized I loved this guy I don’t know maybe I’d be that unhinged too. The timeframe is the only thing that’s keeping me from being like yeah it’s absolutely 100% about L.

5. I’m really interested to see what happens the more we get closer to season 4. I think N will feed us some selfies from set but just like for season 3 there will be a drought. And with all of the negativity thrown at L I don’t think they’d put themselves into a media frenzy if they go public.

6. I’ve seen a lot of people hating on Lukola fans because they think we’re delusional and I say who cares lol. You cannot watch all of the promo they did for season 3 and honestly think that’s just a platonic friendship. If anyone has ever had feelings for a really good friend you’ll know how it comes across. I’ve never seen promo like that EVER. For me it’s fun to think of them ending up together because I’m a romantic at heart. You can tell they love each other whether it’s just friendly or not. I do try to not speculate but I can’t help but do it and I usually don’t ship actors. I love them individually and I would love them as a couple but I also love if it’s just friendship too.

In my millionth rewatch of Bridgerton season 3 I noticed something I hadn’t really put together before. Did anyone notice in episode 3 when Benedict is trying to escape mamas and he goes over to Lady Danbury. Before he comes over there’s a shot of Lady D staring and I never quite noticed she’s staring at Penelope. If I’m slow on this apologies. But now all I can think about is the conversation they could have had. It could’ve been spectacular. Such a missed opportunity just so Benny could escape mamas.

Lady D: Good evening Miss Featherington.

Pen: Oh. Good evening Lady Danbury.

Lady Danbury stands there with both hands perched on her cane, standing resolutely as Pen still faces the corner.

Lady D: Are you enjoying yourself?

Pen: As much as one can enjoy staring at the walls.

Lady D chuckles.

Lady D: I must say you have quite shocked me this season Miss Featherington. It reminds me quite of myself.

Penelope turns to her, surprised that such a comparison would be uttered.

Pen: Surely not.

Lady D: Believe it or not at one time I shied away from prying eyes and hid myself away. All the while I was ambitious. I wanted a life of adventure and success. And it was all so frightening so I turned myself into something fiercer. Much like you seem to have done this season.

Pen: I do believe it is a farce. I am quite sick of clinging to walls like this though.

Lady D: Perhaps your interactions with a certain Mr. Bridgerton will be … enlightening. I have watched you both through the years. You both find strength in one another. You might channel that confidence without his presence for you are quite capable of it.

Pen stares off pensively, taking in everything she’s said.

Lady D: Ah. Here comes your Mr. Bridgerton now.

And then Colin walks up and once again loses his nerve because he doesn’t believe Pen could have feelings for me but she does!!!

I still can’t get over how Colin told Penelope he loved the way her hair cascades down her shoulder and she basically never put her hair up ever again (only exception being the day after the engagement party and maybe church even though it was still kinda over the shoulder). That girl was like my boo loves the hair so I’m going to give hair all day every day.

Still living in my Polin era. Not leaving anytime soon. But since they announced Benedict will be the focus on season 4, which came as absolutely no surprise and didn’t really probably warrant an announcement at this point in time since we’ll be waiting forever for the next season, I decided to start making a list of potential spin offs that Shondaland and Netflix should take advantage of and make for us.

I hope they have something planned similar to Queen Charlotte but who knows. Queen Charlotte is definitely very different because it was more based off actual history and to me it still feels very separate other than bringing in Violet and Danbury that sticks more to the Bridgerton side of things.

Anyway here’s some ideas that could be added to the Bridgerton collection:

1. The Featherington story. I’d love to see Portia’s origin story. We got a big glimpse of it this season and I’d love to see her originally as maybe a very carefree debutante and realizing just what is expected of her and the choices she made. And maybe combining this with current timeline with a new heir. This would be more dramatic. I also wouldn’t mind seeing the Featheringtons in a comedy because they’re hilarious.

2. Edmund and Violets story. We know how this one ends and honestly I don’t know if this would ever be explored now because we have seen Edmunds death and we saw a young Violet so it just might not be an interest. Or it would’ve probably be a very long series. I think they could draw on the aunts and uncles of our Bridgerton siblings. We know Francesca stayed with her aunt in Bath and Julia Quinn does have her whole prelude to Bridgerton series so…I’m not opposed.

3. Bridgerton Christmas. I stole this idea from a few people I saw on TikTok. It wasn’t anything I had thought about before but it would be an easy way to keep production costs low. Would be more of a movie than a season with multiple episodes. Very similar to what shows like Downton Abbey have done that they have where they have a special I think this could be something fun to hold people over.

4. Lady Whistledown. Something. Season 3 had the opportunity to delve into the origin of LW and have some flashbacks and didn’t do it. They did explain why Penelope started the column but I think it would have been interesting to see more to see how in the world she created this empire. There was also mention of other gossip columns in the first episode of season 1 so the competitiveness of this. The danger Pen put herself in could lend itself to something. There probably isn’t enough here for this idea to become a spin off.

5. The servants. Anyone love Footman John? Yeah we all do. Want to know more about Varley or Wilson? Or season 3 MVP Rae?! Taking a note from shows like Downton Abbey this could be an interesting story to tell from the servant “downstairs” point of view. This would be unlikely. They haven’t delved much into this side of things so not many people probably do care about these side characters plus if they stick with Sophie being a ladies maid for season 4 that probably wouldn’t be likely at this point. Maybe after season 4 but they’d have to dig more into these side characters and bringing them into the more prominent storylines.

Kudos to you if you made it through that list. Mostly I just want more Polin so they could get their own spinoff, a film series, a travel series. Or just cast Luke and Nic in some rom coms for me so they can go on more press tours that’d be great.
