Bavaria, Germany 🇩🇪
Bavaria is the largest federal state in Germany, located in the southeastern part of the country. Its capital is Munich.
Historically, Bavaria was an independent duchy as early as the 6th century. It later became the Kingdom of Bavaria in 1806 under King Maximilian I Joseph during the time of Napoleon Bonaparte. Bavaria joined the German Empire in 1871 but kept a strong regional identity.
Today, Bavaria is known for its rich traditions, castles like Neuschwanstein Castle, Oktoberfest, and its strong economy.
The world's largest cave castle, Castillo de Predjama, Slovenia 🇸🇮
Predjama Castle is the world’s largest cave castle, dramatically built into a 123-meter-high cliff in southwestern Slovenia.
The castle was first mentioned in historical records in 1274. It became famous in the 15th century as the home of the knight Erasmus of Lueg (also known as Erazem Predjamski), who rebelled against the Habsburg Empire. During a siege, Erasmus used a secret tunnel system through the cave to secretly bring in food and supplies, allowing him to resist for over a year.
After his death in 1484, the castle was later renovated in Renaissance style and remains one of Slovenia’s most fascinating historical landmarks today.
