“I go now to my long rest in the timeless halls beyond the seas and the Mountains of Aman. It will be long ere I am seen among the Noldor again; and it may be that we shall not meet a second time in death or life, for the fates of our kindreds are apart. Farewell!' He died then in the dark, in Tol-in-Gaurhoth, whose great tower he himself had built.

Good evening friends and enemies, it's time to learn how to source unsourced videos instead of perpetuating the chain of missing attributions that progressively obscure the original source with each repost. 😃
STEP 1: Take a screencap of the video, preferably while it's playing so that the PLAY button isn't blocking the image.
STEP 2: Reverse image search of choice. To my chagrin, I tend to end up resorting to Google's Search by image because Tineye keeps failing me and I haven't gotten around to doing a deep dive into currently available reverse image search services.
If you use the Firefox desktop web browser (untested: other desktop web browsers, Firefox mobile web browser) you can combine STEP 1 & STEP 2: Feel free to repost the video to Tumblr first, preferably as a draft or private post to prevent people from reblogging the uncredited vid, because this method doesn't work as well on Reddit videos.
Right-Click on the video. In the right-click menu, look for "Image Search Options" and hover over it to bring up a list of search options. I'll have to try out some of the other options later, but for this demonstration I used Google.
The search engine should open in another tab.
STEP 3: The Search. This part will be a mix of luck, tenaciousness, and deductive skills.
For Google, I recommend going to the "Exact matches" tab because it presents matches and their information in a much more condensed format than the other tabs. "Exact matches" is a misnomer, as is apparent in the screencap below. This search actually pulled up images from at least two separate videos by the same woman hanging from the same tree: one where she's wearing a slate grey pencil skirt and blazer (as in the video reposted by OP) and one where she's wearing a pale grey long-sleeved dress.
Ideally, a functional search engine would let you sort results by useful variables such as "date posted". Google is not such a search engine, and with its progressive enshittification you may or may not be able to bully Search by image into limiting results to certain date ranges. Luckily, these videos have been less flagrantly reposted than some, so I didn't have to scroll through too many.
When searching for a source, one of the primary things to pay attention to is date. Obviously, the original source has to be older than any of the reports. Unfortunately, not all the Google results have dates, so the earliest dated video isn't guaranteed to be the original.
In this case, the earliest result was of the grey dress video variant posted on Instagram on Jan 17, 2026. However, upon checking the link it became apparently that the Instagram account was not the originator of the video and their repost was unsourced.
If the date check fails you, keep an eye out for any undated results that clearly stand out from the rest. In this case, I picked up on the following:
Which has the following unique traits:
A new outfit! This is the only result that features the woman in a pale brown blazer and pencil skirt.
Dimensions. This result is 1080 x 1920, while the majority of results were smaller in size. Reposts are more likely to be downscaled from the original than upscaled, so if the initial date-check fails you, you're better off checking the largest undated results first.
Specific username (Liang Li (@liangli521)). A lot of the other results just have captions or titles in various languages. Depending on the website, these are usually either captioned reposts or random search terms that don't even link to the actual video. Results with specific usernames are rarer and thus worth checking out, though some of them may turn out to be reposters.
In this case, I hit the jackpot! There they all were: OP's video, the grey dress video, the brown blazer & skirt video, and many, many more!
Legitimately, Liang Li's whole thing seems to be going ham in skirts, dresses, and frequently heels. Possibly for advertising purposes? Very beautiful. Very powerful.

H-hot damn, ma'am...

And also the indestructibility of that woman's ankles
also the indestructability of that woman in general. I dont think anyone can stop her from anything.
For real, where do I buy these?
A 50-kilogram anvil floats perfectly on the surface of mercury, because the density of the steel from which it is made is almost half the density of mercury.
damn that shit is light lmfao
Fun fact! Many lighthouses with especially large fresnel lenses would have huge fucking tubs of liquid mercury in the lantern room because it’s a super easy way to make these giant lenses rotate quickly!
Shockingly, however, spending most of your time in close proximity to 500 pounds of liquid mercury is Not Great For One’s Health and tons of lighthouse keepers started to go crazy from the whole. Mercury poisoning thing. Hence why there are a lot of “haunted” lighthouses or wickies that lose it and maybe do a bit of manslaughter.
Anyway, people saw a bunch of lighthouse keepers go crazy and get sick and got empirical evidence that it was in fact related to the 500 pound mercury bath they have to visit every day and then they decided nah it’s fine actually. So we’ve kept the liquid mercury thing and I think that’s beautiful
I love how it is so dense it does not "wet" the anvil, the drops all run and leave with nothing behind them unlike water, oil, sauce... it's super satisfying it's like in cartoons
In a letter written on April 19, 1825, Augustin Fresnel proposed the use of mercury to reduce the friction in revolving lenses. His statement follows: “I propose to float our rotating devices, of the first order, in a bath of mercury, instead of placing them on rollers. This project won't present many difficulties; nevertheless, as I have not put it into execution, I won't require you to adopt it for your first lighthouse.”
Fresnel’s plan for mercury flotation was not put into practice until 1890 when Monsieur Leon Bourdelles, Chief Engineer of the French Lighthouse Service, designed and built a workable mercury flotation system. The mercury bath allowed the lens to operate in an almost frictionless environment and, additionally, allowed the speed of rotation to be dramatically increased.
Lens Rotation by Thomas Tag | United States Lighthouse Society
Ah to be a sailor in 1890 who has to turn to his fellow men and ask "is it just me or are the lighthouses flashing faster?"
They had been slowly getting faster for decades.
It mattered for optics reasons.
Under less-than-ideal conditions, you can only see the beam when it’s pointed more or less directly at you. In-between beams you would not be able to see anything. One solution to this was to create multiple beams, and the lenses Mr Fresnel designed usually created 8 beams. But, even still, duration between flashes could be as long as one minute in the old mechanical roller systems.
The nearly frictionless operation of the Mercury suspension system allowed the lenses (large pieces of precisely ground glass weighing several hundred pounds in some cases) to rotate fast enough that they could be redesigned to create fewer (usually 3) beams. Fewer beams from a similar light source will be proportionally brighter, and the gains in speed were sufficient that duration between flashes could still be reduced to as little as 10 seconds.
This was a big upgrade. It didn’t just make the lighthouse signal faster, it allowed them to completely overhaul the lens and derive more visibility from a light source.
What’s a little Madness, in the face of Progress?
mods are asleep, post the fresnel lens
The Lighthouse that I work at has the only working Mercury float on Lake Superior. It took me forever to figure out how it worked, this post is great,
I laughed to hard at this fucking thing.

After 11 hours of work and gallons of tears, I finally finished my Renaissance like painting of Crowley's fall!!
Probably my best artwork for now (pls reblog it~). It was supposed to be a sketch. AH. AH. Anyway, I'm really happy about the result! It feels good to challenge myself with some impossible projects 😈

My friend worked with the People With AIDS Coalition in 1990 and found this while cleaning out some old folders. I can't stop thinking about it.
image description: photographs of a document from the People With HIV/AIDS Action Coalition, by Michael Kearns, titled: "The Dos and Don'ts of Throwing A Memorial."
"Life is laughter amid a rosary of deaths" -- Federico Garcia Lorca
Remember pot parties and dinner parties? Saturday night orgies and Sunday morning brunches? Birthday bashes and other fashionable fetes?
Well, forget 'em. What you're likely to attend—and throw—during the '90s are Memorials (aka Celebrations of Life). Having become a Veteran Memorial Giver, I've compiled a few guidelines. Am I serious? Dead.
Do check dates to see if there's another Memorial (for someone more famous) on the same day. Don't start on time—give people a chance to be phony.
Do keep the memorial indoors. Don't go to an idyllic park (especially not Griffith).
Do use the deceased's phone book to compile the guest list. Don't invite anyone who's only listed by first name and number of inches.
Do invite enemies of the deceased (they'll have a final opportunity to be resentful and jealous). Don't introduce more than one person as the deceased's "best friend."
Do keep the Memorial brief (remember: most of the guests attend two or more of these things on weekends). Don't allow out-of-work actors to speak extemporaneously.
Do display a photo of the deceased. Don't choose the one with the double-headed dildo.
Do provide a guest book. Don't provide trick pads.
Do provide live entertainment. An Earth Mother chanteuse (flown in from New York) would be divine. Don't, if you resort to tapes, use "That's What Friends Are For," Judy's "Over the Rainbow," or any Stephen Sondheim.
Do, if serving food, serve up a bowl or two of AZT capsules next to the nuts. Don't set out boxes of Kleenex (even if the deceased's shrink insists).
Do macaroons. Don't do balloons.
Do have an out-of-uniform nurse in attendance (with some of the guests, a seizure is just a heartbeat away). Don't have parking attendants.
Do mention the word AIDS repeatedly. Don't be polite.
Do invite the family (especially the homophobes, if any). Don't protect them.
Do discuss politics. Don't discuss religion.
Do small talk (if you're apolitical). Don't ascribe meaning to the weather ("God must be crying, too," "The sun is shining for our boy," "The smog is as heavy as my heart.")
Do, when eulogizing, exaggerate. Don't, however, use "best," "greatest, "finest," or "most important." (You're bound to be challenged).
Do acknowledge VIPs in attendance—especially if they've made it to 40. Don't introduce more than five former "significant others."
Do something literary (perhaps a selection of Whitman). Don't quote Louise Hay
Do dress up (no 501s, please). Don't do drag.
Do wear bright colors. Don't insist the guests "wear something white."
Do honor most of the deceased's requests. Don't, however, show those slides (we've all seen them—at least once) from his three faaabulous trips to Europe.
Do make a note to yourself to plan your own memorial. Don't let it fall into the hands of your incompetent friends (who may not read this list).
And finally, when it's over:
Do remember why you threw the Memorial. Don't forget how much you love your dead friend.
Do hear his laugh. Don't let go of the memories.
Do cry. Don't tell anyone how much.
