Not since the Republican supermajority took over 20 years ago.

The Ohio State University history department was even told last year that they can not teach Ohio/American history that predates the arrival of Europeans or else they will lose state funding. Not that they really need it since the football program brings in billions and the university has been illegally raising tuition rates for decades.

The last University President, who abruptly quit after getting caught having an affair with a right-wing crypto scammer (and whose first act as President was to bypass the University committee in charge of determining graduation speakers so that he could have his good friend and crypto investment partner be the speaker) forced the universty to ban all student groups that he considered to be DEI; sorry ladies, you can't have support groups for abuse and rape!

That's just at OSU which itself has more political pull in this state than just about anyone. Smaller state universities never had a chance.

And now Vivek Ramaswamy who is running for governor on a pro-datacenter, pro-grift ticket has publicly said that he wants to close all but four state universities and colleges because, "we don't need them."

That's an indication of how fucked we are.
