"Not every mother loves her child. Becoming a mother does not automatically create a bond between parent and child. But, if your mother did not care for you in the way she should have, that is her failing, not yours." There seemed to be a lot of talk about motherhood reaching Alba's trained ears as of late. She has a feeling that some citizens of this world might need to hear what she has to say regarding her own experiences.

"If you have never had a mother, or have lost one, there is always a chance for you to gain one, no matter your age. There was a time, after all, when I was not yet Neva's mother." Neva rubs her head against Alba's adoringly, her pup asleep and nestled between her gigantic paws. "Or maybe... you do not need one. Maybe those who created you would look at you now and realize you have done a better job raising yourself into a fine person than they ever could, yes?"

Alba's arms encircle Neva's snout as she returns her daughter's affection. Alba, after all, had raised herself. She had not birthed Neva. Alba had taken up the mantle of "motherhood," never having an example of what it was like… And yet, when she sees Neva with her pup, treating Bruma gently and with patience, showing her through life with the same mannerisms that Alba had… She knows without a doubt she has done well.

Lowering her head close to the ground, Neva sniffs at the air as she stalks forward towards the boy. The movement looks intimidating to the common eye, but Alba sees the way Neva's tail is raised in a friendly greeting and turns to see what's caught her daughter's attention.

"I see they have given you a real weapon. Not a fake." Alba draws her wooden sword and begins to swing it in slow arcs. She steps lightly around and over Bruma as the wolf pup excitedly weaves between her legs, as graceful as any dancer.

"They give your weapon back because they think you do not know how to use it. They think that you will not bare your teeth at them." She freezes in her stance, sword perfectly level with the ground, the epitome of control. Bruma stops too, looking up at her with a wagging tail and eyes pleading to continue their fun game. Alba turns to the boy with a serious expression on her face.

"You must prove them wrong."

It seems that Alba really wasn't joking when she said she has the two best pillows in the world. The woman is tucked into Neva's side, the great wolf curled around Alba's much smaller person. Alba herself is curled protectivly around a lump that is presumably Bruma, but only the pup's horns can be seen poking out from the red cloak covering them both like a blanket.

Neva looks on with obvious fondness. Using her large, sharp teeth with unerring delicacy, she grabs a corner of the cloak and tucks it around her family more firmly. Raising her head again, eyes glittering with alertness and intelligence, it's clear she's keeping watch.

Neva sniffs at the air before turning to look at a human child with a familiar smell. She turns her head so she can see them with her good eye, and after a moment, she jerks her chin to the side in a universal "come closer" gesture, mindful not to knock her great antlers against the lower branches of the park trees they're lying under.

"Ngh. It is very… bitter. Be careful, Neva, it is quite hot." Alba politely tries to cover her expression of disgust as she raises her mug towards the giant wolf's head. Neva dips her tongue into the mug and, having no consideration for human politeness, hacks out a disgusted cough at the taste. She eyes the drink mistrustfully and makes a low rumble of discontented agreement.

Bruma sits on the seat next to Alba's at this cafe, advertised as "dog friendly," and whines. She looks at the mug with pleading eyes, ignoring the glass of water set in front of her. Alba gives a fond chuckle at the pup's shameless begging.

"No, no, Bruma! You are too young for coffee. You want to grow big and strong like your mother, yes? Perdoni, dear? Do you know if they serve anything sweeter here? I am unfamiliar with these types of places."

"I am fine, Neva." Alba insists as the great wolf and her pup observe the gash on the woman's leg with concern. "I do not need to remind you that I have survived much worse."

Nevertheless, Neva licks Alba's wound before tilting her head back with a howl that rattles the windows of the nearby buildings. A howl that is so powerful and laced with magic that all living things can't help but spring into life at its call. A howl that would normally have Alba's skin knitting itself back together without a mark… But, nothing happens. Alba is not healed, and no flowers bloom under their feet. Neva tilts her head, clearly confused, while Alba looks up at her with a concern that now matches her daughter's.

"Neva… What is wrong? Are you ill?"

In a show of strength impressive for such a small woman, Alba brings the wooden sword down onto the pumpkin, smashing it into a dozen pieces. Bruma leaps into the air to catch some of the flying pumpkin viscera in her jaws, gulping it down with enthusiasm while Alba leans back to wipe her brow.

"At least it is good for something. I fear I am growing too old for doing this without the proper equipment… Thank you, Neva," she says fondly as the huge wolf drops a pile of lumber at her feet. Neva raises her great head towards the newcomer and barks, alerting Alba to his presence. The woman turns to him and smiles warmly, unperturbed by the disruption.

"Hello there! Would you be a dear and help me with my cooking? There is more than enough to go around."

there’s someone in the lodging that the two had been assigned. The door is slightly ajar, and there’s soft grunts and noises coming from inside.

Inside, Chara Dreemurr is pulling up blankets and pillows. They turn and furrow their eyebrows, looking at the two, before looking down at the pillows and blankets.

“… these are mine,” they say. “I am liberating them and taking them to … the place I am staying. But they were in my assigned room.”

"Well, I do hope you are not leaving because of us." Alba's voice is carefully nonjudgmental as a flash of grey streaks by out of the corner of her eye. It seems Bruma is enjoying her first time being inside a building to her fullest.

"We wouldn't want to oust you from your territory. We will be leaving soon, regardless. I prefer to sleep outside, and my daughter is having… difficulties with the doorway."

As if on cue, Neva plants her paws on either side of the second-story window and looks in with a discontented whine, her yellow eye taking up a large portion of the window.
