“So you’re saying I saved your life?” Scott rubbed the back of his head, the scar was still hidden under his hairline. Shaking his head at Alex, the story Scott was told didn’t match. “They told me you died Alex, how was I supposed to find someone who by the time I could even ask questions about it the answer was always ‘don’t worry’. I joined the Xmen for you, I wanted to make the world a better place for you.” Scott wanted to get the story right so there was no resentment but even he knew it was hard to let go of a long winded grudge. “I do understand if you still don’t like me, I don’t really like myself much these days either.” He watched Alex grab some beers.
Alex shakes his head. He knows Scott better than he knows himself at this point, and he knows his older brother, younger brother, whatever, won’t let anyone get hurt. One beer would do nothing to his kid-brother at this point besides give him a mild buzz and a bad taste in his mouth. He’d take them outside, find somewhere they can be alone, and they’ll just spend time together. Or they can sit inside, and Alex will dive in front of Scott if his glasses fall off. The younger won’t get drunk, he’ll ensure that. Unless he wants a second beer; but he’d cap him at three. Well maybe four, his brother is already pretty big in terms of height and physique. He could easily handle four.
“You’ll be fine, Scoots,” he smirks, winking as he reaches into the fridge to grab the bottles and close the door behind him. Popping both caps off he hands one to Scott and then motions for him to follow him outside to the pool area. “Yeah, you saved both of us. Parachute caught on fire after the plane exploded. I remember looking back when we jumped, I saw Mom when she died, when the plane blew up. It was all right there, you couldn’t because you were looking the other way, but I saw it all. Fucked me up for years let me tell you,” he admits. “And yeah, I get that now, you told me the first time. But I didn’t believe you. I was an angry kid, a very angry kid. I watched everyone die, I had a new family that got me as a replacement for their dead kid and I hated the world. Then seeing you alive, with those powers, God, you wouldn’t believe the dark places I went to. The only reason I even met you was because Xavier came to get us to save the lot of you. And even then, Oh God, I was such as asshole to you. I’m older now, I’ve gotten over it, but you won’t have an easy time with me, so I’m sorry.” Alex claps a hand on his brother’s shoulder. “Nope, us Summers brothers stick together. Summers bros versus the world, Scotty, don’t ever forget that. We don’t always get along, we don’t always see eye-to-eye, but at the end of the world, all we have is each other. I remember this time the world was ending, and hell, I hated your guts. You bet your ass the first thing I did when I thought we were all going to die is make sure I was by your side for the end. Didn’t say a word, but I was right next to you.”
