I’m remembering how excited I was this time last year for S4 and all the theories we had for what the Moriarty screens were about.

I remember one of the most popular ones was that it was gonna be revealed that Mycroft orchestrated the gifts to be played so that his little brother wouldn’t be sent off on a suicide mission for a killing a man in order to protect his friends, a man who everyone was abused by and despised. Because none of us could see the uber-protective Mycroft allowing that to happen, especially after he witnessed Sherlock being beaten to a pulp in Serbia before. It made no sense he would allow that, even if the alternate was prison - at least prison wouldn’t be a death sentence and I think Mycroft’s statement about Sherlock causing a riot was over-exaggerating. Either way, it seemed like a theory that felt in character with Mycroft and especially how much warmer he was to Sherlock in TAB (”I will always be there for you”).

But, it turned out, nope. It wasn’t Mycroft who set up the videos to save Sherlock. It was, like everything apparently, the sister we had no knowledge of or emotional connection to until the very last episode of the series! Eurus happened to time those videos at the right time because….uhm….fun??

Like someone said about wishing that the whole character arc of a genius being ‘trapped in a plane high above the world and not knowing how to land’ SHOULD have been Mycroft’s story - not have him be shoved out to the side in the last act and palmed off with a ‘he did his best’. Fuck. That. Mycroft, like John Watson, deserved better than this.
