I have never wanted another life, but I know the story of the pursuit

This quote shows how happy the person is with their life and they do not want it to change.
"They wear ball gowns & suits & rings to talk of war in neat & folded languages that will not stain their formal dinner clothes”
Arroz Poetica”, Girmay
This is showing how proper and high maintenance white people are coming from the perspective of a black person.
"about to buy Head and Shoulders
the white person shampoo, no one knows
who I am”
"What I am", Hayes
I still think this is crazy even today that some people still do this. This just blows my mind that people care so much about what type of shampoo they're buying.

Words Not Spoken
Although he could not say with words The love he felt inside He treasured every moment And his heart would fill with pride He never said I love you But he came to every game Even in defeat his son knew He loved him just the same He'd pat him on the head Or maybe ruffle his hair And tell him he was proud of him As long as he played fair When he graduated college I love you wasn't said He smiled as he shook his hand Mumbling, well done, my boy instead When his son went to war He trembled as he spoke And brushing away the tears He made a little joke Now, his son's come home And he stands with eyes downcast His hands stroking the coffin Saying I love you son at last!
The girls are eager to transform him with a kiss; the boys eager to see him on the basketball court. But their principal greets him with a “Get the Hell out of here!”

This just hows how big of a problem racism and discrimination are and how it should be stopped.

Memories are very important to people and this person is reminicing his job as a farmer.

This quote is very important because it shows what it feels like to belong somewhere and what home is really like.
This is a memory of the Coast: to each his own recollections, her reclamations, their restorations, the return of the Coast.

I held on to my mother’s hand. I held on to my mother holding her mother’s hand. I didn’t dream this. Terrible noise. Terrible hollering. I slept through the hollering.
