Resistance of Pop Culture
SNL, Portlandia, and It's always Sunny in Philadelphia as possible examples for group project
"If there are flowers flowers must come out of the road.â
Young Afrikans by Gwendolyn Brooks (via poetryofresistance)
Tell me why fire yearns for the heart.
Juan Felipe Herrera, âHalf Punk Pantherâ (via syerington)
interesting take on a common idea, usually we hear that the heart yearns for fire or passion
(via evkenn17)
I am woman and not white.
"A Woman Speaks" (Lorde). (via theoakwa)
Every line that Audre Lorde writes is so blunt and powerful
(via evkenn17)
It is left out so the reader does not pre-judge the poem.
"Your Du Bois (pronounced Du BWAH)?â
Gay, âSome Instructions on Black Masculinity Offered to my BlackÂ
Friend by the White Woman He Briefly Dated, A Monologueâ
(via jtsnow99)
Shows the lack of knowledge of the African American culture.
One man had a heart, a pill under his tongue- a pill, a dog a broomstick.
Nick Flynn, âseven testimonies (redacted)â (via syerington)
This quote makes you realize the confusion and torture of being a POW
(via aldengardiner)
"This is a time capsule for the Coast: words of the people âdonât forget usââ
-Natasha Trethewey, âLiturgy to the Mississippi Gulf Coastâ (via evkenn17)
The radio said there is no god.
Ricky Laurentiis âNo Araratâ (via syerington)
This was a religion issue because the kid did not know what was right, her own thoughts or the mediaâs.
(via taylorpugh)
This shows the possibility that the girl has given up hope.
"Most white American men are the same color they were then." #racism #hatred #discrimination
âOnlookers with the burning body of Jesse Washingtonâ -Steve Scafidi (via trevorhansen412)
This just hows how big of a problem racism and discrimination are and how it should be stopped.
(via brittanycastrataro)
I think that racism will never be stopped. There will always be some people who would think that minorities are inferior and donât deserve respect. Then they will pass on this training to their children, and the next, and the cycle will continue.
(via theoakwa)
I agree, and to add to it I believe racism has evolved into a social and mental abuse due to different forms of racial profiling and discrimination.
"This is a time capsule for the Coast: words of the people âdonât forget usââ
-Natasha Trethewey, âLiturgy to the Mississippi Gulf Coastâ (via evkenn17)
Group Project-Pop Culture
The satirical sketch comedy TV show Portlandia would be a possible example of the resistance to pop culture.
He will tell you the distance between heart break and rage.
Ross Gay, âWithin Two Weeksâ
#heartbroken #deep #anger #pain
(via brittanycastrataro)
"The sky shook off his clothes and was brilliant. I tell you it was necessary: violence had to preface such beauty." Optimism impacts the way people view things. Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder. Innocence and compassion is brought out after destruction.
No Ararat. Ricky Laurentiis. (via rsparksblog)
The Beat of #life
#life is complex
it is filled with #memories, #hardwork, and #change
personal #expression and #passion are key components
they will #influence your #progress along the way
but don't let #power #control you
because #conformity is not the only option
#life is left up to your own #interpretation
Do what you want to do
Be who you want to be
That is the beat of #life
I held on to my mother holding her motherâs hand. I didnât dream this. Terrible noise. Terrible hollering. I slept through the hollering. Terrible wind-against-earth
"No Ararat" -Â Laurentiis
This is a memory of the Coast: to each his own recollections
"Liturgy to the Mississippi Gulf Coast" -Tretheway
A farmer I was, twenty -two on the ground--hands feet back fists & blood
"seven Testimonies" -Flynn
