How I De-Stress When Not Working as a Make-up Artist
Some of my followers would of read the news of my pregnancy announcement! if not I am excited to announce I will be a first time Mom this December. Me and my Fiancé are so excited. I have been keeping this a secret of mine the last few months and been concentrating on balancing work life, home life and making sure I stay healthy, fit and de-stressed. I wanted to share my tips on how I de-stress when not being a busy make-up artist…
Exercise:
I try and exercise as much as I can when not working to help me reduce stress. Running is a great way to raise levels of the stress hormone, cortisol and I love walking, swimming or doing pregnancy yoga as they are better than an intense session at the gym for me. When exercising my Nike Free 4.0 Flyknits are designed to let my feet move more freely when running and exercising, crafted with a black textile upper that fits around your foot like a sock, the Flyknit helps your muscles to do more work than demanded with usual running shoes!
Reading:
Reading not only acts as a distraction for me, it actively engages my mind! When full attention is given to my favourite book I am reading, my mind doesn’t think about those things that are causing me to stress. I enjoy reading a library of make-up books. This way I can refresh my skills, build upon a skill I already have and at the same time feel inspired to get creative with make-up. I have three books I can’t stop reading at the moment. They are; The Art of Male Make-up by David Horne, Mark Bowles & Spob O Brien. Fashions in Make-up by Richard Corson & Making Faces by Kevyn Aucoin.
Sketching:
Doing creative activity such as make-up mood boards, experimenting with make-up , sketching my ideas or designing my make-up looks on a Karla Chart relieves stress for me, increase feelings of happiness, and helps boost my immune system getting me ready for my next make-up jobs.
Healthy Eating:
Your diet can influence your body emotional and physical. I have cut down on caffeine, sugar, and most certainly not drinking alcohol at the moment. Some great foods for de-stressing which are rich in magnesium is porridge with almonds for breakfast, green vegetables, seeds, whole grains and eating plenty of green, red, orange, yellow, purple, and white fruits and vegetables which ensures that me and my baby are getting a variety of nutrients.
Pampering:
If your skin is under stress you need to change your beauty routine and take time to pamper yourself. To energise your skin during stress, you need to use products which will boost the skin and alleviate the signs of stress, tiredness and ageing. Ensure your skin care products include vitamins A, C and antioxidants. My two essential skin products at the moment are Perricone MD Chloro Plasma which is an Anti ageing mask for instant radiance & Photo Plasma to keep my skin moisturised and oil free. There’s nothing better than putting your feet up and pampering yourself with a face mask and facial!
Time with loved ones:
My favourite de-stress of all! I love Catching up with friends over dinner and shopping. It’s a great way to de-stress. By talking with them and hearing what they’ve been up to and in turn sharing what you’ve been doing, gives you sense of being loved and overall feeling of happiness. I always make time with my fiancé regularly, it’s a quick way to de-stress, have fun and enjoy the simpler things in life.
Sometimes it’s important to work for that pot of gold. But other times it’s essential to take time off and to make sure that your most important decision in the day simply consists of choosing which color to slide down on the rainbow. ~Douglas Pagels, These Are the Gifts I’d Like to Give to You
