Let’s rally and take on the challenge of bringing the whole of Kings peak beneath our feet. Let’s add our tracks to the dirt of the lowlands, pound the sand of the bowl’s gullies and dislodge the multitude of loose pebbles providing us with an unsteady purchase in the steep scrambles to the ridge. This battle will light our legs and joints afire and will be relentless in pulling your mind towards turning back. But we will not give in. Together we will tackle the final third of the climb, braving the single tracks on the edge of bottomless cliffs and the never ending switchbacks that snake their way towards the sky. Upon cresting the rounded stones of the mountain’s peak, we will stand together in awe, contemplating... Staring down Elk Horn Mountain and taking in the vista of the spine of Vancouver Island’s mountain range. For the back country thrill seeker, the feeling of ultimate freedom is found in nature and is generally synonymous with effort and sweat. Making every moment epic is a simple matter of attitude. Every one of those shots froze a moment in time for me. None of these shots are perfect, and my memory of the moment is also no where near exact, but it is that faded impression that the two merge together that provides feeling and meaning in hindsight.
