this is a small infodump post talking about kuunavang and her (pretty small tbh) significance to the plot of gw2 but also a post namely about cantha. if you plan on playing guild wars factions this is like the whole plot to it almost so dont read dipshit

this lady right here is who im talking about. kuunavang is a dragon in cantha that helps you kill shiro by making him mushy and human-y after you beat some sense back into her. much like a batch of mashed potatoes, she gets better after you tenderize her. how does she do it? by giving you a celestial blessing. seeing as how her lore is pretty shallow, it’d probably help to elaborate on celestials (the stars she draws power from) …later.
kuunavang was also stuck under the harvest temple and was slowly being corrupted by the e-thot shiro tagachi. the harvest temple was where the emperor of cantha would ask for dwayna’s blessing to make the food good for the coming year.
anyway, see, kuunavang is distinctly aware of the precarious balance between souls in the mists and souls in the world of the living.
now who is shiro? most of if not all of you would know shiro tagachi as the assassin revenant stance. but there’s a reason why shiro was the one chosen to represent the assassin and not the poster girl assassin nika. see, shiro was something called an envoy.
envoys are basically reapers that are escorting the souls of the dead from the world of the living to the mists. the only one that we see extensively is shiro tagachi, who in history books is called the rogue envoy. see back in cantha some weird unknown sickness started sprouting up. this was because he started to be a huge bastard and was throwing meat and souls together like it was some science project. shiro wanted more souls, so he used these freaky demon things that are now facsimiles of their former human selves to go spread the “plague.” basically think of it like the cheese touch but your corpse is used for murder.
one HUGE major big big thing to note about envoys! THEY WERE CRIMINALS! yes this means that if envoys existed irl we’d have political assassins taking your ass to heaven. super not cool. you know what IS cool? doing it because theyre being forced to redeem themselves for their bullshit crimes while alive! still creepy though. but thanks oracle of mists.
but they get some fucking wicked cool character designs though like look at this shit
yes indeed the path of fire death has the distinct lack of an envoy to throw you back into the world of the living so most gw2 players wouldnt know this fact. the main protag has died in factions before and res’d this way, why not again? cinematic parallels baby. big brain thoughts for you to consider with this lore touchup.
so. celestials. you thought i forgot? a HA i almost did. nevermind. anyway.
celestials are actually the constellations! you were already sneakily celebrating the existence of the celestials because they happen to be the very same animals respected highly in canthan culture in that one festival that iiiiiiiiiii cant remember the name of in game for the fucking life of me right now. its where you get those snazzy canthan backpieces from during the new year.
just look at Tah Mu, the celestial dragon! she represents pain and anguish <3 she was an empress (worthless title cause canthas shit) once but died slowly and horribly after seeing her people get killed slower and horribly..er
