Death Pledge - Wish of Blood - is a dark fantasy romance BL visual novel under production by the indie trio ‘Broken Wisteria’. It’s Wisteria’s first visual novel and the first visual novel in the ‘Death Pledge’ duology series. At the moment, it has plans for a commercial release, priced at around $15, and plans for launching a Kickstarter sometime this year. We’re currently focusing on our alpha demo, which we hope to release towards the end of March / beginning of April, in order to give people a taste of the product. It’s going to contain the prologue & 2 first chapters of Rose & Mari’s path.
The story follows the decline and fall of Wichelhaus family. In year 1XXX, the Wichelhaus family formed a contract with a reaper for a piece of land hidden with gold.
After about one hundred years, Wichelhaus’ greed had a taken large blow to their company, leaving the mortgage unpaid. Thus, as collateral to the reaper, their oldest child, Elicia, has been sentenced to death since before birth. On the night of his eighteenth birthday, Elicia’s brought to the Underworld where the Reaper plans to reap his soul.
But the Reaper’s fascinated by Elicia’s youthful and untainted soul, and thus he decides to play a little game, ‘Death Pledge’. The Reaper shall grant Elicia one death wish, but only if he’s able to make one of the Reaper’s apprentices turn human again by helping them experience “human emotions”.

It’s a pure visual novel but the mechanics of the choice system are slightly different from the regular ones. Once we have a more rigid design of this system, we will update this section.
Elicia’s the protagonist of this story. He’s the eldest and only son of the Wichelhaus Family. Though there’s no denying his innocent & cheerful nature, Elicia can also be mature and thoughtful. He’s a very obedient, submissive son and carries a great amount of respect for his mother.
“Something so terrifyingly beautiful couldn’t exist in our world.”
The Sin of Envy, Roseline’s a cold and stoic-faced male who purposely avoids strong, complex emotions. The only thing that derives much reaction from him is schadenfreude. In his eyes, humans are pitiful and bothersome creatures. Elicia is merely an object for him to achieve his goal.
“Doesn’t it frustrate you? Knowing you can’t ever have something, but someone else is handed that same thing on a silver plate and takes it for granted?”
The Sin of Sloth. This playful, childish, and somewhat sadistic sin enjoys playing games and taking naps every so often. Though his lazy nature is viewed as annoying by others, he doesn’t care much about changing his behavior and rarely thinks of the consequences behind his decisions.
“It’s okay to cheat if it’s the only thing that can save you.”
The Sin of Greed. Despite his sin, Dolce’s laid-back, calm, and friendly, quite the opposite of what one would expect from him. He’s rarely seen without a small, lazy smile and a cigarette in his mouth.
“You should never trust a reaper, little one. I know so from experience.”
The arrogant and un empathetic Reaper that Elicia’s struck a deal with. Though one would not think so since he’s always playing around or grinning about something, the Reaper’s a cunning and untrustworthy being who holds almost enough power to challenge even the King of the Underworld, Satan. He tends to speak to everybody — including Satan — in a very degrading, dramatic manner.
“Now, dear! Let me have a taste of that delectable soul of yours.”
The Sin of Lust. A persuasive, seductive man who’s able to steal the hearts of women and men alike. Cyan’s usually a gentleman, but he’s not shy about his advances either. When he truly desires something, he becomes cruel, manipulative, and aggressive.
“That’s no good, Elicia. The prey should be patient and obedient.”
The Sin of Pride. A prideful and elegant boy who always holds his head high. Naemi thinks that he’s of much higher worth than anyone else and is never afraid to speak his mind, regardless of how harsh his words may be.
“Don’t be preposterous, you simple-minded fool. I am not human enough to do such an absurd thing.”
The Sin of Gluttony. Emilia’s a narcissist with a diabolic nature. He loves to play around with his victims before he disposes of them.
“I’m not certain if you’re foolishly optimistic or just a hypocrite.”
The Sin of Wrath. Sara’s a man who suffers from much inner fury and contradicting emotions.
“I am not a good person, but thank you.”
Jonathan is Elicia’s younger sister and the oldest of the twins. She’s more optimistic and sweet than her younger sister. At times she can be a bit troublesome, but she always means well.
“Big brother, help! Josephine’s being a know-it-all again!”
Josephine, or “Joseph” as most people refer to her, is Elicia’s younger sister and also the younger one of the twins. She’s more grumpy and serious than her older sister. She often tries to copy her mother.
“Jonathan, it is ‘I’ not ‘me’. Have you not yet properly mastered the English language?”
The Head of the Wichelhaus Family. She’s a fairly plain-looking lady, but nobody dares question her authority.
“Do you speak the truth? Because your eyes and actions say just the opposite.”
The husband of Lady Wichelhaus. Sir Wichelhaus is a spontaneous, easy-going man. He was once an adventurer.
“I haven’t forgotten our promise yet, son.”
Satan is the lord of the Underworld. Though he’s the strongest man throughout the Underworld and feared by even the angels and humans above, he is also a prisoner in his Kingdom. Satan is impatient and hot-headed, but an intelligent man nonetheless. He has what one would call a “complex friendship” with the Reaper.
“Can’t you entertain yourself in a less problematic manner?”
There isn’t much known about this strange, mysterious person. He often pops up out of nowhere and vanishes just as suddenly.

Note: Only Rose, Maribelle, Dolce and a secret character are obtainable in Wish of Blood. In it’s sequel, currently called “Repentance”, the four other sins and a secret character (one of the ones on the character list above) are going to be obtainable.
