Happy birthday, Stanley Donen!
Is doubling down on blockbuster construction the way to run a modern studio? Whether or not Warners is really going through with that, Geoff and I get into the weeds about what motivates a filmmaking industry constantly on the hunt for $1 billion and a shipment of plastic toys from China. We'll also discuss the implications of shifting all your money into big bets in an age of demanding fans and super-monotony.
Plus, is it a curse or blessing when sequels for cult movies we love get cancelled?
You should follow the show (@brokenprojector), Geoff (@drgmlatulippe) and Scott (@scottmbeggs) on Twitter for more on a daily basis.
Fixed that subtitle.
Get after it, everyone.
Thanks for the discussion on unfilmables. It was helpful.
Our pleasure!

The turn toward drama is happening...get ready for “Oscar nominee Amy Schumer” in 2018.
How extensively do you outline and how often do you go off on a tangent from that outline and have to revise it during the first draft?
Dug into this in the most recent Vomit Draft episode.
Non-audio style: Scott outlines a healthy amount and diverges from it 50% of the time when better ideas come up.
Geoff hardly outlines at all (really none) but has a clear vision in mind for where the characters will go.
But.. you should experiment and find what works best for you. Thanks for the question!

A look at the five best appearances made by David Bowie songs in the movies.
Since the filmmakers could only afford a single dressed-up elephant, the scene where Luke Skywalker spotted two Banthas side by side was realized through optical compositing. (x)

Here's a business question... So you're repped. Step 1. Yay. Script goes out. Doesn't sell. Got some great meetings out of it. Starting to make a name for yourself. Reps stops answering your emails. Calls. Etc. 6 months goes by nothing. Cool. So I consider myself back on the market now... Do you mention previously being repped in new queries or no? It would make sense to, but I also dont want to seem like a failure or used goods... Any insight appreciated
Geoff’s short answer: it’s better to have had representation and lost it than to have never had representation at all. Yes -- mention you were previously repped. It means someone was willing to take a chance on you already. You can spin the reasons why it didn’t work out.
More complete answer on this week’s show.
Thanks for the question.
