Prior post - the synthetic version... Bunh thang soup would be incomplete with a drop of this... I grew up calling it cricket ass juice but the essence actually comes from the back of this little guy. We use the synthetic version since finding the natural stuff is difficult.

What i love about cooking w/ my mom is getting the history and back story of each dish. This was my sister's favorite dish. Bunh Thang (thang means ladder) which makes sense bc there's so many layers to this soup. Today we spent 6 hrs in the kitchen making bunh thang and pho. Not the greatest picture but wanted to share.
