Tell’em What They’ve Won! -  A Game Show

I wanted to work on something new. It had been a while. Something a little bit different. Something outside my comfort zone. After a couple nights diving into old game show clips on youtube, I thought it would be so strangle and fun to see that an old game show today.

Approach was basic, make an “impression” of an old game show. Something a bit off. I reached out to the very talented Lucas Held and we wrote it in a night, then shot it the next week.

So the “something new” I wanted ended up being something old. The result is what you see here. “Tell’em What They’ve Won!”, is just general thing announcers say, it mostly just references the genre. The contestants are actors, a good portion of it’s improvised, and the game is completely inconsequential, (which I still question), and the announcer is out of his mind. Like I said…an impression.

So here it is,  a new fake game show, set in a different time, with fake contestants from the present, and an announcer going mental, giving out insane prizes. Not a bad way to spend one’s time.

I got to meet someone I idolized once. He was so funny and generous with his time, that I forgot for a moment, that he made some of the greatest music of all time. Rest in Peace, George Michael.

I saw a fight. I know if you’re anything like me, you ain’t feeling real brutality in 3D. I have seen too many fail videos ya’ll. However, last night my feelings weren’t so much changed as they were stretched and squeezed. Tom "sly dog" Murphy encouraged me to support a mutual friend, Lance Dixon (which will only be known to me now as, “the destroyer of worlds”) And ya know what? I didn’t see so much brutality as I saw years of tradition, a heck of a lot of courage, and met a ten year old girl who told me she “only looks up from her phone to watch the girl’s fight”. I walked away still conflicted, but with buckets of respect for the sport, it’s traditions, it’s pageantry, and most importantly, the fighters. Congratulations Lance.
