i still see cultural appropriation posts that are like “X is cultural appropriation because it originates from Y culture” with the entire argument being just that it comes from a certain culture and not even a trivial attempt is made to suggest that it is in any way “closed” or whatever its just like assumed that because it has a specific cultural origin that “outsiders shouldnt touch” bc i guess the assumption is that inward-seeking exclusionism is the ‘default’ mode of culture and that just seems weird to me bc it seems so obvious on minimal reflection that human societies would look incredibly different if the natural inclination was “cultures arent meant to be shared” or whatever
