I was honestly shocked by the comments I found; they were terribly racist and deeply unsettling. ​As a Latina, this kind of hate hits me harder than usual. It's actually so insanely important the way Thorim gifted Bilbo mithril. In that time Mithril was so fucking rare, the vein only found in Moria which was inaccessible. Mithril became priceless, even a piece of it was worth ten times it's weight in gold. For Thorin, in the hold of sickness that made him suspicious of everyone and his kin of taking his treasure and him revering it, for him to gift Bilbo a WHOLE coat of mithril in FRONT of witnesses as a TOKEN of his intentions ("friendship"). Hold me back. Imagine if Bilbo just walked around Dain (and other dwarves) and other Kings just casually mentioning this precious thing he was wearing was just something Thorin gave him. They would kneel over in shock. It. is. that. insane.

But this is exactly why the dwarrow are awesome! They are ride or die for their little hobbit! When a Nazgul of Sauron goes to Erebor and offers them rewards for any information on Bilbo Baggins of the Shire, the dwarrow response is basically "WTF is a Hobbit?". They lied to a representative of the Dark Lord for the love of their King and company who helped reclaim the Lonely Mountain!
