“A” es el artículo indeterminado singular. El plural no lleva artículo.
Ejemplo:
There is a cat in our garden
There are cats in our garden
- El artículo determinado
"The" es el artículo determinado singular y plural.
Ejemplo:
The cat is in the house.
The cats are in the house.
El artículo indeterminado introduce un sustantivo en un cotexto general.
Ejemplo:
He is a writer.
El artículo determinado introduce un sustantivo en un contexto preciso.
Ejemplo:
He is the writer of “Numancia”.
En general, los nombres de lugares no llevan artículo definido. Pero existen algunas excepciones, como los nombres en plural, los compuestos y algunos accidentes geográficos.
Ejemplos:
We went to Peru on vacation.
He is going to Beijing next week.
I’m studying in the United States.
The scenery in the Rocky.
Mountains is breathtaking.
