Prince is one of the few musical constants from my childhood. It's unfathomable, and when i heard it besides refusing it to be true i felt empty, speechless. But for me Prince's music was always about living life as true and to its fullest. I was never sad when I listened to Prince -quiet, introspective at times but never sad. To listen to his music was always - always - about celebration, bearing through life by living it loud and unapologetically. I don't think there's a better way to honor such a legend. Thank you for everything 🌹

If you come from a place where literacy is a luxury and not everyone gets to go to school, and not everyone gets to read, it makes it an even more powerful notion. I’ve seen the power of words in action. I saw Nikky Finney’s ancestors in that glorious moment delivering that speech. I saw them smuggling words against death and censorship. For aspiring writers, seek your truth and tell it. We live in a moment where it’s so easy to see what everyone else is doing and to compare yourself to that. Seek your truth and tell it. Just seek your truth. It is a harder thing to sit in the stillness. You’re the best person to tell your own story. Trust that.
