caretaker was laying in bed, her door slightly ajar.
ever since whumpee had come into her care she had made sure to tell him that her door would always be open. and she kept that promise despite the fact that whumpee never left his room, let alone stepped out from underneath the blanket he constantly hid under.
so tonight when she heard the floorboards outside her room creak and that soft sniffle in the doorway, she was startled.
but then she saw his face.
he stood timidly in the doorway peeking up at her through his hair, standing like he was only allowed to be something small.
“hi baby..” she whispered. “did— did you need something?”
whumpee was completely still for a moment. but slowly, a trembling finger pointed towards her.
“you need me?” she asked.
caretaker fought her excitement. she didn’t want to startle him. she was just so proud of him. for leaving his room, for communicating with her, for… for everything.
she lifted the corner of the bedsheet and before she knew it, whumpee was curled up against her, his small hand grabbing a fistful of her shirt.
