De-stressing after a not-great walk. A kid skidded his bike right in front of him, startling him. He would have recovered, except he immediately turned to brush against an abandoned water bottle with his nose. Then even my hand startled him. Once he accepted it, though, it helped enough to turn around and head to the car. Of course, just as he was walking tall again, a kid fell off his scooter to our right, causing quite the ruckus. He didn’t really recover until he was in the car, head out the window. He’s fine now. Any one of those scenarios would have been okay on their own, but one right after the other was just too much.

Brave bubs at our local Woof Gang Bakery! The owner is always so patient and supportive, and always has the best bribes. In the end, he didn’t want to leave! Also, he’s such a charmer, a random customer added a couple chew sticks to her order and then literally handed me the bag as she went out the door, saying, “For him.”

Happy St. Patrick’s Day, everybody!

When you see the dogs that attacked your dog, all three together AND the big one is off leash. I was angry before but willing to chalk it up to a poor decision. Now I’m FUMING.

Had to coax a sleepy Brutus into giving up a sliver of the bed so I could climb in. Not easy, but worth it to realize Charles M. Schulz had it right: happiness is, indeed, a warm puppy.

Brutus made two new friends today. Skateboarders coming up from the park just as we were turning toward the door back inside. I can only imagine their view as his head popped over the retaining wall to listen intently as they slowly wheeled ever closer, dropping happy f-bombs while chatting. He clearly caught their attention, and they slowed even more on approach, smiles growing. They got off their boards to pass by, to see better, I think. He followed with his head, and I told them, as they passed out of sight behind some bushes, that he’d love to say hi. The next thing I hear is the clatter of a skateboard hitting the ground and “I can’t pass this shit up.” First one comes round the corner then the other, and Brutus was appropriately petted and fawned over, and called a beautiful dog and a good boy. They wheeled away after a minute, still smiling, and I’m typing this up still grinning, and it was a good way to end the day all around, I think.

He very calmly, very slowly and in increments, belly-crawled his way into this pose. Stealth cuddler.

The only upside to your dog waking you up for a walk at 4:30 is that you get your taxes done by 7.

At first I couldn’t get him to settle down (he clearly didn’t understand that Momma needed a nap) and now I can’t wake him up. His routine is going to be so screwed up.
