Klaus Bürgle attended the State Academy of Fine Arts in Stuttgart from 1948 to 1951 and was appointed by Professors Rössingand tailor teaches. Since 1953 he worked as a freelance graphic artist. He specialized in technical-scientific topics, illustrated a variety of popular science books and magazines and worked for scientific television series. In particular, he designed visionary illustrations on these topics: The operation of cars with nuclear engines and wirelessly transmitted electrical energy, as well as airplanes with supersonic technology for cargo and passenger transport and orbital missiles for space tourism, continued to create public images of novel solutions for rail and shipping and unconventional ideas for the handling of everyday business in the picture. In 2010, works by Bürgle were shown in an exhibition organized by Kunsthalle Göppingen at Schloss Filseck near Göppingen. Bürgle specialized in technical and scientific topics. He was able to visualize technology that existed only as engineering ideas, turning them into photo realistic drawings. Bürgle produced many illustrations for scientific books, magazines, and television productions.

Bürgle’s original drawings were given to the book and magazine companies most of which don’t exist any more. As a result, most of the originals are lost. What we present here is based on photographs and scans of prints.

Your last megalomorpha post was my favorite so far! I was wondering if shinchu is based on any particular insect? maybe the brood parasite phengaris rebeli?

Shinchū is a bit of a mix! Her body is a scarab beetle larva, her horns are a butterfly caterpillar. Megalomorpha's larvae often look the same (standard beetle body type) but their adults can vary widely, so I wanted to be loose with the design and give it something distinctive from the other larvae.

The pupa at the end is a stag beetle, too! I wanted something that looked a bit hard to decipher at first, but still a bit reminiscent of the beetle grub!

And Shinchū's father was also important to think about, though it can only be seen as a silhouette and has no direct influence on the story! It was based on a Hercules beetle, which to me reads as old and imposing.
