“So… what’re you going to do in the meantime?” your sister, Sana, asks you as you laid in bed with your phone on your chest. Your favorite group had just announced their hiatus. You’ve been a fan of TXT since they debuted back in 2019. It was the first group that ever caught your attention ever since you saw their… coconut hairstyles. It was just so cute. Yeonjun, specifically. It was like love at first sight. Of course, their talent matched their handsome faces so well. Since then, their updates, their music, every single thing they did, occupied every second of your life. You made friends who were also MOAs, fans of TXT, your sister and you became closer (since you became fans around the same time), everything became what it is today because TXT came into your life. Without them, you would be nothing!
“Why are you asking me that?” you say, turning to your older sister, “you’re a fan too, what are you going to do? Soobin consumes your whole day. What are you going to do without his daily Weverse updates?” Your sister rolls her eyes at you as she gets up to sit next to you on your bed.
“I mean, I have a job to go to. That consumes most of my day. This school semester is ending for you. Wasn’t your plan for the summer dedicating your time to be up to date with every announcement they release and starting up an X account for Yeonjun updates.”
“Well that idea is now down the drain,” you say, as you scroll through the comments of HYBE’s announcement of TXT’s hiatus. Their return date is unknown. “You don’t think this is going to be the same as One Direction right?” You ask your sister, fear in your eyes. She laughs.
“Nah, they’ll be back.” She gets off of your bed and walks to the direction of your bedroom door. “In the meantime, get ready, mom and dad say uncle Jooho is coming over.” You nod, turning to your side so your back faces the door. You scroll through your home feed of X and read other Moa’s statuses.
SoobinYouKnow: “NOOOOOOOO THIS CAN’T BE HAPPENING.”
HyukaMyBaby: “I JUST GOT INTO THIS FANDOM”
20cmEnthusiast: “Wait, guys, this could be a good thing! The boys need rest. WE need rest. I haven’t caught up on anything since 2022.”
BeomgyusWife: “Alright, I guess it’s time for me to lock in and get my degree”
HoneybeeJunie: “ARE YOU KIDDING ME. I THOUGHT IT WAS GOING TO BE A TOUR ANNOUNCEMENT. WHAT IS THIS??? TAKE IT BACK I DON’T WANT IT!”
You exited out of the app and clicked on your messages. Surprisingly, your friends are quiet. Before, the group chat would be blowing up if they made any big announcements. Today it’s surprisingly quiet. Maybe they’re busy. Actually, they might be. You have two separate friend groups. One with your childhood best friends and one with your high school best friends. Your childhood best friends became fans of TXT because of you, but they aren’t as big a fan. Your high school best friends and you became friends because of TXT. You expected them to be texting in the group chat right now but nothing. Well, it’s okay. Everyone has their own lives and they have their own things going on. It’s your fault for having a boring life I guess. Along with school, your friends have part time jobs. As for you, you only have school going on and other than that, it’s just… well.. dedicating the rest of your time for TXT. Maybe you should be doing something else instead. This college semester was coming to an end. You have a year left until you get your degree and you’re still doing the same thing you’ve been doing since high school. Maybe TXT going on a hiatus is a sign that your life can’t just be about them.
Your attention goes to the small banner that popped up on the top of your screen, half expecting your friends to finally say something in the groupchat. But no, it’s a Weverse notification.
You sit up straight, pressing on the notification.
Hello MOAs, it’s Yeonjun.
The company has finally addressed the hiatus. Ah. We have been discussing it for a while. I hope you aren’t too upset! This is not good bye. We will be back. For the time being, we are focusing on ourselves as individuals. The other members and I have been doing this together for so long and have decided on having some time apart to get to know ourselves as individuals. We will come back together stronger than ever! Don’t worry MOAs, we love each other and all of you and we are working hard to make sure we continue to become even better. Both for ourselves and for you. As we take this time apart, make sure you also take care of yourself. We love you MOAs! Let’s come back stronger together! When we’re back, tell us everything that happened while we were away. I’m sure you will have fun too. Life can be unexpected but it can be fun. And it’ll go by even faster when you’re having fun. Let’s have fun together when we’re back okay? “He’s so sweet,” you say, reading a line of his message one more time. “Life can be unexpected but it can be fun.” You sigh. “Well this was surely unexpected and it’s not fun, Yeonjun.” You toss your phone on your bed and stare off into space.
“Y/N!!! Uncle is on his way!” You hear your sister yell from the living room. You drop your head back and let out a big sigh before standing up and getting ready.
Your family and you sat around the table, eating a meal your mom had prepared. Your uncle came to visit, his wife was busy so he came alone. He thanked your mom for the meal. Uncle Jooho isn’t your actual uncle. Not blood related at least. He was a close friend of your dad’s from college. When he got married to his wife, Auntie Yejin, your mom had gotten close with her as well. They didn’t have any kids, but treated you and your sister as their nieces ever since you two were in primary school. They had lived on and off from the US, primarily living in California. So it wasn’t too often that you saw them. They recently moved back to Korea last year. You saw them a handful of times since then. Today, Uncle seems to have some news to share.
“Sorry my wife couldn’t come visit with me today,” he says, “she’s busy fixing up the house. My oldest brother’s youngest son is moving with us soon.” He had a big smile on his face. You have heard how much he and his wife had been wanting a child and it was unfortunate they were unable to have any. Maybe now they can experience what it's like having a son. Even though it’s their nephew.
“That’s wonderful,” your mom says. “How long will he be staying here?” Your uncle takes a drink of water before answering your mom’s question.
“For however long he wants to be. Maybe until he gets married,” he laughs. “He’ll be going here to start school. He actually got into the school Y/n attends.” Your mom’s eyebrows raise, turning to you.
“How perfect, Y/n, you can be his first friend here. Show him around, introduce him to your friends.” You quirk up an eyebrow.
“I don’t have any friends, nor do I even go around campus. You know I only go to class then head home,” you reply. Your dad and your uncle laughs at your comment.
“Anyways, it’ll be nice for you to show him around. I think it’s his first time visiting here, correct?” Your mom says, turning back to your uncle. He nods.
“Yes, he was born in California. He hasn’t been to Korea before so it would be nice for him to have someone show him around. At least for the meantime. You know, until he makes some friends.” Your uncle says. “I’m sure Y/n would be okay with that right?” You gave him a tight-lipped smile and a single nod. “Perfect, thank you Y/n. I knew you were a nice girl. Plus, you two are around the same age so I’m sure you would get along great.” You nod again, silent. “And he’s very handsome, you’re not going to be so quiet anymore when you see him.” He laughs.
Your family joins in the teasing, saying something about how you’ve never had a boyfriend before and how it might be the right time now that you’re almost done with school. But your sister gives you a knowing look, nudging your arm. “You never know,” she says in a low voice, only for you to hear.
“When will he be arriving?” Your dad asks your uncle. “I believe their semester ends this coming week.” You nod, confirming your dad’s comment.
“The Monday after,” your uncle answers. “We’ll be picking him up from the airport. Would you like to come Y/n?” You choke on your rice. Coughing as you shake your head no. You swat at your sister. Hoping she gets the hint.
“I think it would be better to have him settle in first uncle,” your sister answers for you. “I’m sure he’ll be tired. The long plane ride and the time difference and all.” You nod, as you gulp down some water.
“Maybe next time uncle,” you say once you finally catch your breath. He nods, thankfully agreeing. You lean into your sister’s ear.
“You better not let me be alone when I meet that kid for the first time.” You whisper. Your sister rolls her eyes and nods.

After your uncle left, you went into your room and scrolled yet again on X. You had a short conversation with your friends under your post. You read several posts of other MOAs mentioning how they’ve dedicated their whole time for the boys and maybe it’s time to move on. In the meantime at least. Which is crazy, in your opinion. How can you just stop loving the boys so fast? Before TXT, you were like every other young girl. Crushing on boys who were nice to you in school. Dreaming of being in love like the couples in the dramas you’d watch with your sister. Hoping to get married in the future. Starting a family and having kids. But then TXT popped up and your entire life changed. As weird as it sounds, you fell in love with the boys and their talent. Their personalities. They made you laugh, they made you cry, they made you feel so much with their songs. And wow wow wow, were the boys handsome. You couldn’t look at anyone else the same way. These boys were sweet, and kind, and they made you feel giddy. Something you haven’t felt with anyone else before. Dating wasn’t something you did when you were younger. It was always school first. Your parents didn’t want anything distracting you from your education. And that was fine. You crushed on boys from a far. Getting as close to one of them liking you back but nothing serious happened. As you grow close to being old enough to actually start dating, you met TXT. And the rest was history. Your dreams of getting married at 25 was now just a silly thought your 13 year old self imagined. Ever since becoming a fan, you had no time to think about feeling that way with any other person. You were a passionate fan. Expressing your love for the five boys who worked so hard to please those who loved them. MOAs were spoiled by the boys and you understand that they were also young when this life of theirs started. Maybe like what Yeonjun mentioned in his last post, it’s time for you to find yourself as an individual. Who are you when you’re not a fangirl?
