Beau: Happy birthday, Darren :) x
.tbdbaby:
The strap of my backpack got stuck in the subway doors just as they closed today. It totally pains me how much of a clumsy loser I am.
At least it wasn’t your hair.
.dnwdarren:
Darren’s grin grew all the wider the second that Beau greeted him, and he found himself having to chew on his lower lip so as not to look too overenthusiastic. He didn’t want her thinking she was a total weirdo or something. The facade slipped away pretty quickly, however, when she made it apparent that she knew his name, and Darren nodded eagerly in response.
“Yeah! Uh, yeah. Darren. You know who I am?” he questioned, raising an eyebrow in response.
It probably made him seem super lame to even ask that, and he realised his error almost instantly. Still, Darren didn’t have any false ideals about his status at the school. He knew he was lucky enough to have a lot of friends, and that people were usually pretty content to chat with him. He hoped that had something to do with the fact that people actually thought he was a nice person or something, as he tried his best to get along with just about anyone, but it still made his heart swell with pride to think that people knew of his existence, and actually wanted to stand around and talk to him. It made a stark difference to when he was in middle school, or even the few years prior when Grant Morley had still been roaming these halls and shoving him into lockers – of course, that still happened on occasion, but it was nice to get a break from it.
When Beau informed him that she hadn’t made many new friends, a small laugh escaped his lips as he shook his head in confusion. When it became all too evident that she wasn’t joking, Darren stared at her, wide eyed with his mouth agape.
“Wait, you’re serious? You haven't–” he cut himself off, not wanting to make a complete idiot of himself. His emphasis on the word you was enough to imply that he thought Beau to be a cut above the rest, and he wasn’t sure if that was just because he thought she was insanely pretty, or because she actually seemed pretty cool, but either way he found it hard to believe that somebody like Beau couldn’t make friends off the bat. Still, he had no idea what it was like being the new kid, so he supposed it wasn’t his place to make assumptions.
Shrugging, he moved on, finally catching onto the latter end of her sentence, and realising that even now she didn’t think that he was stopping her to actually talk. While it wouldn’t be totally out of line to assume he hadn’t been paying attention in class, he actually wasn’t here to talk to her about homework – especially as he couldn’t very well confess that the reason he hadn’t taken any notes in the last hour was because he’d been too busy daydreaming about how beautiful she was.
“No, no. Nothing like that, actually,” he told her, waving a dismissive hand in response to her homework comment. “I mean, I guess it’s school related? But it’s, like, totally not about homework.”
Pondering over how to address what it was he even wanted to say – how exactly do most people tell a cute girl that they wanna be their friend and talk some more? – he reminded himself of her previous comment about not making many friends.
“Um, I guess… This might sound, like, sorta lame or something, I dunno… But I guess, I mean… I know you’re new and everything? And I get that it’s, like, probably crazy hard finding your way around a new school and getting to grips with everything in a new environment, and stuff,” he flustered, stumbling over his words as he tried to get it all out without Beau thinking he was a complete buffoon. “And, I guess ‘cause you just said you, like, haven’t made a lotta friends… Which– oh my God, I’m not, like, rubbing it in, or anything, I just…”
Stopping to take a deep breath, Darren brought two hands up to bury his face in his palms, embarrassed at his own inability to have even a simple conversation with a pretty girl.
“Sorry, crap… Uh, I was just sorta wondering, maybe if you needed someone to, like… Show you around, and stuff? Y'know, I guess you probably know where your classes are by now, but… If you wanted help with anything?” he posted the question awkwardly, topping it off with a gentle shrug in her direction, before allowing his gaze to drop to his feet as a soft blush crept back onto his cheeks.
Darren seemed surprised that she knew his name, to which Beau raised an eyebrow in confusion.
“Yes,” she emphasised. “Doesn’t everyone know your name?”
She realised that may very well be an extremely forward thing to say, but it was an assumption that she thought was completely justified. She hadn’t learned Darren’s name first hand after all, one of the other girls in her class informing her of it and telling Beau that Darren was super popular and have saved the life of none other than President Alderson’s daughter. Beau had been dubious to believe this, especially since the whole escapade had supposedly taken place on top of a twenty-storey building that Darren had miraculously survived being pushed from. But the point was, a lot of people knew Darren, and Beau fought off the embarrassment that came with knowing more about a classmate than she, evidently, was meant to.
The surprise in his tone when he realised she hadn’t shoved her way into any prominent social circles was flattering and it cut yellow across her vision.
“Nope,” she confirmed, tucking her short hair behind her ears. She’d always been self-conscious about the action, fearful her ears were too big to be on display but her tendency to second guess herself had ended abruptly after her break-up with her ex. She didn’t particularly care what people thought about her anymore – even if they did happen to be cute boys with nice smiles that tasted of candyfloss.
“Oh okay, well shoot,” she encouraged him, gesturing with her hand for him to go on before it returned to clutching the strap of her backpack.
As soon as he began stumbling over his words, apologising and condemning himself for potentially offending her, a bright smile lit up Beau’s face. Okay, so she supposed that he was exceptionally cute and knew that this was going to be a story she recounted to Lo later on. Her brother was protective just like any older sibling tended to be, but he wasn’t scarily possessive like others she’d seen and she’d never shied away from talking to him about crushes before.
“Darren, please breathe!” she urged him, boldly moving forward to lay a hand on his shoulder, inhaling exaggeratedly and bobbing her head as a means of telling him to do the same. After exhaling and giving into the warm, giddy feeling that spread through her chest, Beau absently wondered if Darren was offering to show her around just to be kind or if she should throw caution to the wind (as much as Beau was capable of) and maybe get her hopes up.
“Listen, that would be really great if you could show me around. It took me half an hour to get to History the other day and Mr Griffin was nearly at the end of explaining every little detail about a six year war by the time I arrived,” she told him, stepping back and clasping her hands in front of her.
“Can I take you up on your offer?” she smiled.
.qtdaisy:
Phil. Fucking. Oakley.
In all honesty, as someone who worked in a hospital, as someone who’d committed her life and her work to protecting and taking care of the wellbeing of other human beings, Daisy didn’t like to entertain the idea of ever harming one. While she’d happily joke here and there, or sometimes let her foul moods get the better of her, any threat that she ever made was empty. Any snide remark regarding Lo, or dig directed at Billy, was always made in jest, or just in the heat of the moment. She never meant them, and she couldn’t possibly fathom putting another human being’s life at risk.
That was, of course, until Phil bleedin’ Oakley showed up out of the blue. Phil fuckin’ Oakley, who had the audacity to turn up and cast doubt in Kit’s mind. Phil bloomin’ Oakley, who thought he was somehow better fit to raise Jenna than Kit. Phil motherfucking, sleaze-bag, scum of the earth, the dirt beneath her shoes, Oakley, who thought that he had every right to just waltz on in and turn Kit’s world upside down.
As a result, Daisy was mad. Really fucking mad. She wanted to throttle the bastard, in all honesty. She wanted nothing more than to get her chubby little hands around his arrogant, dirtbag neck, and to squeeze the life from him. But, after some much needed Oz-time, her sunny friend instantly instilling a sense of calm in her just with a simple smile, she finally allowed herself a few moments of calm. Then, after texting back and forth with Beau, Lo’s younger sibling the absolute picture of reason, Daisy thought she was seeing things a little more clearly now. Admittedly, it had taken an abundance of candy, warm Ozzy-cuddles, and some wise words from a teenager to get her there, but she felt a little more at ease all the same.
So, now, with a lot of rational thinking and some much needed TLC, Daisy had concocted a foolproof plan. One that she had no doubt would work, a feat that proved 100% accurate when she pulled it off. After wrapping her arms around Oz’s neck (affectionately, of course, she hadn’t lost herself imagining him as Phil) and thanking him with a soft peck on the cheek, she’d scurried off out of his and Jaxy’s shared apartment and had set off on her venture.
So here’s the thing. Daisy wasn’t proud of what she’d done, and she supposed that technically she’d broken some law or another, but given the circumstances and how much she hated Phil after a grand total of zero interaction with the pillock, her conscience was, for the most part, clear. After some brief stalking on social media, she’d traced his movements and worked out that he’d been in the busy bean. Then she’d scouted out this one high schooler she remembered. He was this cute little thing, and he’d ended up in her emergency room a couple of times – though, each time exceptionally eager to get away – and she’d grown a strange little attachment to the kid. She supposed she shouldn’t, really, but the way he’d flounced around, calling her boo and teasing the other members of staff, flirting with passers by as though it were second nature, he’d often garnered a giggle or two out of him. Even when she’d spotted him swiping a fifty from Bennett’s wallet.
After finding the boy in question, she’d offered him a small sum of money – more than she’d like to admit, in all honesty – to hop on into the Busy Bean, work his magic, and swipe Phil’s phone. And, lo and behold, he had.
Delighted with her scheme, she’d ushered him off on his way and excitedly raced off to meet Beau at A Novel Idea. She wasn’t even sure how she was going to explain just what she’d done to the girl, knowing full well how morally wrong the whole charade was. She’d have probably gotten a high five off of Cody if she knew anything about it, but Beau couldn’t be farther from Kit’s roommate, and Daisy was certain she wouldn’t take too kindly to thieving.
Skipping in through the door, Daisy stopped only briefly to wiggle her fingers in a quick wave towards Simon, before sticking her tongue out at Billy in a rather juvenile fashion. The owner of the cafe-come-bookstore only smirked, rolled his eyes, and continued serving his customers. Then, twirling delightedly in her yellow sundress, she sat herself across from Beau with a satisfied grin on her face.
“'Iya, babes!” she greeted her, her tone warm.
Beneath the table she could feel her legs bouncing, her feet tapping excitedly against the tiles below as she patiently waited to show off her steal to Beau.
Her heart skipping ever so slightly, she bit down on her lip and smiled softly at Beau. What a bleedin’ sweetheart, ay?
“Aw, fanks, babe!” she smiled, before sincerely adding; “You look well gorge, hon! As always.”
With their greetings out of the way, Beau’s expression shifted, her entire stance turning serious. It was all business from here on out. Well, for one of them. Not that Daisy didn’t take the situation seriously, of course (she’d just stolen a bloody phone, hadn’t she?), but she’d wager that Beau was treating this far more practically than she was, putting her nifty little detective skills to use in the most impressive fashion.
Glancing at the notebook that she displayed, Daisy swiped Phil’s phone out of her pocket and slid it across the table towards Beau. Quite ecstatic with herself, Daisy stared at her, waiting for her response.
“That, babes, is Phil’s phone,” she stated, still beaming all the while.
The excitement from her slight detour from morality, and the thrill of being able to catch out that conniving prick, meant that a permanent smile had taken up residence on Daisy’s face, her cheeks practically aching from the stretch of it.
“What about that?” she asked, curiosity finally taking over as she jabbed a finger towards the notebook Beau held. “What ya got in there? Background check?”
Beau smiled brightly when Daisy complimented her, her opinion of the Cockney girl climbing higher and higher. She had never been friends with someone as loud back in Canada, but Daisy and her bleedin’ and her flippin’ ‘ecks were a welcome change of pace. The smile soon faded though when Beau took a closer peek at the phone presented to her, a bad feeling in her stomach.
It had none of the cat stickers she had on her own phone, nor did it have the ‘Vote Knope’ phone case that would mean the device belonged to Kit. She knew what Lo and Simon’s phones looked like as well and the anxiety crawling up her throat was already telling her it wasn’t Daisy’s.
“Please don’t say it, please don’t say it,” she whispered under her breath, already regretting asking the brunette.
Beau let out a short whimper of despair when Daisy cheerily informed her that it was Phil’s phone. Perhaps it wouldn’t have been so awful if Beau was even remotely surprised, but instead her shoulders sagged in defeat like she had been expecting this answer all along. Chewing on her bottom lip, she stared resolutely down at the little electronic device and wondered if she should just turn herself into Clarke right now.
“Okay… Phil’s phone,” she said slowly, reaching up to rub at the growing headache behind her temples.
“And he… gave it to you?” she had to ask, unable to stop the hopeful note in her voice. It was wishful thinking seeing as she doubted that Phil, who uploaded selfies like a priest gave sermons, would willingly hand his phone over to a perfect stranger who also happened to be firmly on Team Kit, but she stubbornly clung onto that naivety anyway.
When Daisy pointed to her notebook, Beau’s colour-coded notes and mind maps now seemed painfully redundant. Perhaps they could still help out a little but, as uncomfortably illegal as it was, Beau would have to admit – under extreme duress – that Daisy’s method of gaining information to stack up against Phil Oakley was just that little bit more efficient than her idea of using specific interrogation tactics she’d learned from her time working at the precinct.
“Nothing just… school work,” she lied, closing her notebook and propping her elbows up onto the table. She leaned away from the phone, eyeing it warily like it was about to blow up in her face.
“Daisy, please tell me you didn’t steal it from him,” she sighed.
.dnwdarren:
With his chin rested on the heel of his palm, Darren stared over at the girl a few seats from him. He wasn’t always the kind of person to drift off and lose his attention in class, and he did like to actually focus and get all the appropriate notes for their homework, but he figured maybe today he could just copy down James’ at lunch break or something.
Because boy was he distracted.
Beau Fields was still relatively new to school, and they didn’t have a whole lot of classes together, meaning that they’d never really spoken all that much, which Darren thought to be pretty unfortunate. Sitting two rows in front, and just to the left of him, Beau was currently scribbling in her note pad, her head darting up every few seconds to catch whatever it was that Miss Parker was talking about now, before staring back down at her page and adding to her wild array of notes. Her hair, short as it was, seemed to whip ever so slightly with each movement, and Darren found himself grinning at just how focused she seemed to be.
Feeling a pair of eyes on him, Darren swivelled in his seat and glanced at the person beside him, only to be met by a very confused look on his best friend’s face. Eyebrows furrowed and nose scrunched, James tilted his head at Darren as his eyes wandered over to the object of his attentions. Eyes widening when he realised, Darren met his best friend’s gaze with a wide grin, before staring back up at Miss Parker as the final bell rang out to announce the end of the class.
Gathering all of his books up and shoving them into his rucksack, he flung the bag over his shoulders before clapping James on the back, and half-heartedly telling his best friend that he’d see him in the cafeteria. Not glancing back to gauge whether or not he had gotten an answer from him, he began hopping from desk to desk, swiping all worksheets that laid littered around the classroom, forming them into an orderly pile, and made his way over to the front of the classroom.
“Hey, Miss P. I thought I’d save you the trouble,” he smiled, before carefully placing the work atop her desk. Miss Parker then smiled, before pressing her hand to her chest in that way that he noticed she often did when a student was actually nice to her, and Darren waved a friendly goodbye to her, before spinning on the spot and searching the classroom to see if Beau was still there.
Eyes landing on her just in time, he watched as she made her way towards the doorway – the last student, bar him, to exit the classroom – and he started towards her.
“Hey, uh, Beau!” he called out, speeding up as she entered the hallway.
No doubt she was either on her way to her locker, or to the cafeteria for lunch, but he hoped he could at least stop her in time to have a quick talk before she disappeared. Luckily, he had height in his favour, meaning his long legs covered a lot of ground fast, and he found himself at her side in no time.
“Hey,” he repeated, sneaking a quick glance at the girl.
Holy crap, she’s so pretty, he thought.
“Sorry to, like, bug you, and stuff,” he started, a shy smile gracing his features.
He felt nervous, suddenly, and he had no idea why. It wasn’t like he didn’t talk to people all the time, or anything. Darren liked making friends, but he found himself blushing profusely any time he found himself interacting with someone he had a crush on – a feat he’d become quite good at hiding when around Alex, though.
“Um, so, anyway. I was kinda, uh, wondering if we could, like… talk? I know you’re, like, new and stuff… And you’ve probably made, like, all these friends that you’d rather be off hanging out with right now, but I just wanted to ask you something, I guess?”
Beau had severely underestimated just how difficult moving to a new school would be. She liked to tell herself that it was worth it now that she saw Lo on a daily basis and, by default, Simon and Kit, but being the ‘new girl’ wasn’t everything that teen movies perked it up to be. At seventeen years old and starting bang in the middle of her junior year, she was swiftly realising that everyone already had predetermined friendship groups that were hard for her to wiggle her way into. Sure, people were friendly, but Beau was still lacking friends.
She clung onto the smiles Lucy Carter gave her when she passed her in the hallways and always jumped eagerly at the chance to return Baby Calhoun’s friendly ‘hello’ when they sat next to each other in class, but Beau wasn’t sure if the girls were just being nice to be nice.
The work was also challenging, as Beau soon found out when she sat down for her English lesson with Miss Parker and realised that she was scarily behind on the syllabus. Her old school hadn’t even touched on Shakespeare yet, so when Miss Parker began chalking words up onto the board, Beau furiously began scribbling her old notes down, copying what Miss Parker said and adding what she knew herself from the various times she’d seen Lo do an amateur production of A Midsummer Night’s Dream.
She hadn’t even realised that the bell signalling the end of class had rang until Taylor Lynch passed her, tapping lightly on her desk and cheekily informing her that Miss Parker didn’t give extra-credit points for students that worked into their lunch hour. Blushing, Beau watched with a hint of jealousy, as Taylor linked arms with Baby and Lucy and left the classroom.
Shoving her books into her bag and slinging it over her shoulder as she stood, Beau chanced a shy wave towards Miss Parker before stepping out into the hallway. The hubbub of students milling around and the cacophony of sound that reached her ears prompted a myriad of colours to burst in front of her vision. But it was nothing she wasn’t used to and she was about to push on when the violet colour intensified as a voice called her name.
Turning, Beau saw a boy from her class steadily making his way towards her and a sweet, sugary taste filled her mouth. She was reminded of summers at the fairground when she and Lo had been forced to stand in line for the disgusting porta-potties, all so they could wash the sticky remnants of candyfloss from their face. Beau had never met anyone who tasted like candyfloss before, but smiled at the boy nonetheless, already pleased that he seemed to know her name.
“Hello,” she greeted him in return. She waved a hand when he apologised for bugging her, trying not to make it too apparent that she was excited about someone starting up a conversation with her. “Don’t worry about it. Darren, right?”
She knew the boy from a few of her classes, and his friend James’ anecdotes concerning Much Ado About Nothing were the only reason she wasn’t in danger of completely failing her finals. He was pretty cute, which made Beau even more curious about why he was speaking to her.
“Oh, I can talk,” she nodded, a sheepish smile making its way onto her face. “I actually haven’t made that many new friends so far. What did you want to ask me? Homework things?”
I made Simon and Lo watch birthing videos so they’re prepared in case Kit goes into labour around them. Does anyone know how to bring colour back to the faces of two men?

Beau: Happy birthday, Ronnie! I know we don't talk much past history class but I hope you have a fantastic day :) x

Say what? Beau?

does beau really think that cutting her hair is going to change the fact that her boyfriend cheated on her?
(via confessmessina)
I cut my hair because I decided I can do what I want with it now. And I should have realised that earlier. I like my haircut.
how can anyone feel comfortable when the safety of our city is put in the hands of someone like laurent? if only people knew the shitstorm she caused back in paris.
(via confessmessina)
I, for one, feel more than comfortable knowing that Clarke is out there doing her job. There is no one better for the job, actually. I’m actually very fortunate to have someone like her to look up to.
.clarkeily:
Oh, that is very sad. Have you seen Love, Rosie? It is a very nice English movie. The couple are in love, but they are not together. But it all works out in the end, and they are very happy. I believe in that kind of love. Do you, Beau? Because I believe that it exists, and that people like you, or Logan, and Kit too, deserve that kind of love.
I haven’t. Is it a good movie? I’m guessing you enjoy it. I think that kind of love is really nice, even if there are issues with the practicality of it. But if you find someone that gives you that love, then that makes it worthwhile. I think they deserve that too.
.clarkeily:
Kit… She is pregnant by this… Phil. But she is your friend, and Logan’s too. Are they… an item?
That’s a loaded question. They used to be and then they broke up. Now? I think it’s complicated. And I shouldn’t say that I want them to get back together, where everyone can see. But I’m feeling brave tonight, so I’m going to.
.clarkeily:
I think so to. Pardon me, again, for my increasing intrusiveness, Beau. But may I ask a personal question? It is okay if you do not wish to answer.
Sure. I’ll be as truthful as I can rightfully be.
.clarkeily:
I do not want to be dishonest, so I will say that I am very often wrong. But do not let that dissuade you, as I do believe that I am right on this one. It will be ok.
I doubt you’re wrong about the things that matter. And this matters. So I believe you and that it’ll be okay. My brother and Kit deserve a break after everything they’ve been through.
.clarkeily:
It is okay to get angry. It is a good emotion, and this man sounds like he is deserving of it. I do not know if karma exists, or if we are alone in this world, but I think that our decisions and choices get us where we are. This Phil will not get far with his cruel words and his manipulation. The truth will out.
I hope you’re right but I get the impression that you’re rarely ever wrong.
.clarkeily:
Oh, please do not be sad. Do not think like that, Beau. It will all be okay, I believe that. You are good people, and bad people like him will receive their comeuppance. I truly believe that.
I think I’m more angry than sad. And I don’t get angry a lot, it’s weird. I hope you’re right. I don’t actually believe in karma but if I did, I would want it to bite Phil in the ass.
.clarkeily:
I am very sorry for them, too. I do not know Kit very well, but I have heard much about her, and I believe that she sounds like she is strong. Logan is too.
Well, of course we love you too!
They are, and I know they’ll get through this. I just hope they get through it unscathed.
